Good communication
I have used Simpson Milker twice now, both for property sale and purchase and i have been very impressed by their service. I see a lot of negativity on here, but honestly i will use them again should the need arise.

Shambolic and chaotic. They do not communicate and we would have lost our sale without the wonderful Carolyn Lowe in the Lancaster office who is their receptionist. They should be ashamed and embarrassed about the disorganised way they handled the decision to stop conveyancing, and their continuing appalling service.
Simpson Millar are the worst law firm in the UK. They have let hundreds if not thousands of clients down who were using their conveyancing department — please look at Trustpilot. Do not use this company — they are in breach of SRA code of conduct and do not have your best interests at heart.
This law firm failed to carry out work we instructed them to do on our behalf and of which they accepted payment - due to an incredibly short sighted decision by Greg the CEO to protect its clients from financial ruin myself and my partner now find ourselves on the verge of homelessness and we are now being completely blanked by the company! AVOID USING this company at all costs when there are far more competent alternatives around.
Trying to sell & buy a house through Simpson Millar, has been a nightmare. We have never been able to talk to our conveyancer - 3 weeks we have been waiting for a call back, and still nothing, after chasing daily. We have raised two complaints, both ignored. We are due to move in 2 weeks time, and still waiting to exchange. After a little research on the internet, it appears Simpson Millar are no longer doing Conveyancing, as of the 2nd Aug’22 - they have not informed us. We are now left with no idea if we will exchange contracts & move, or if we need to find a new conveyancer to finish the job, Simpson Millar aren’t going to - this will put us back weeks and cost us financially, as we try to move back dates of the move with our movers, and other services, let alone the impact to our buyer and vendor - disgusted by our treatment and the poor service. We have been promised today a call back within 4hrs from a partner, but yet again no call back. An awful experience and one that appears to be experienced by not only us.
Awful and abysmal service Conveyancing - I had to make an official complaint about the handling of my case. Not only had it taken an eternity to complete the simplest of cases but a lot of the time you have to be continually chasing Simpson Millar staff to get any action and despite signing up to a fixed fee rate, twice additional charges were attempted to be added. The original timescales of 4-8 weeks long passed, in fact it took over 6 months to be completed. Throughout my dealings with SM there was conflicting information, no information being passed on or staff communicating with each other and constantly having to clarify with them or find out what was happening with the case. At one point, 5 weeks passed without any work completed so an email to my case handler was sent, only to find out that she had left so I then contacted someone else, he had left the company too. Who was looking after my case? Throughout all the correspondences, emails and letters there were incorrect information which was very clear as already supplied previously several times, there is an important need to read the emails properly and get things correct but even this very basic of things they could not get right. After about 6-8 weeks I received an email saying “There was a re-organisation and be assured that all our staff will do everything to ensure a smooth handover of your file.” I then receive an email, which I am having to explain all of the situation again. This is not acceptable, why was there no handover of information so it just felt like back to Square 1 again but already a large amount of time has passed. Some of this information could have been supplied by me weeks earlier if they could be bothered to inform me but that didn’t happen, they just sat on the case and did nothing. It has been misinformation, mistakes, constant delays, constantly changing between staff and fed small pieces of information at a time rather than at once throughout. If I was a Director I would be embarrassed by the service you give your customers, just look on the TrustPilot reviews, there a loads of bad reviews complaining about your poor, abysmal, appalling service. I thought solicitors were supposed to be trustworthy, honest, show integrity, be transparent and reliable but unfortunately none of these qualities have been shown by SM. The extra pressure and stress they have caused is unacceptable and also cost me hundreds of pounds in lost interest and other costs because of constant delays. I instructed SM because of marketing lies, because you were a national company with a lot of expertise, a fixed fee with nothing else to pay on top and it could be completed very quickly. All are untrue, I’ve waited 6 months for completion, paid more for poor service when locally I could have saved £. The only “national” thing they are, is a national disgrace. Their level of incompetence knows no bounds, one of my most awful experiences of my life at an already very stressful time. I was completely mis-sold your services, promised lots and delivered little. This was an absolute, incompetent shambles.
Instructed Simpson Millar for the purchase of my new home. Mohammed Iqbal and Lucy Bell were very thorough and helpful! I would like to thank them for their advice and assistance with my conveyancing matter.
Cannot fault the service and professionalism given to us from start to finish of our transaction. Claire and Rhianne are a credit to the firm and were prompt in dealing with all actions and communication. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use them again in the future.
Excellent service Good communication Job well done From Mr and Mrs Brandon
I found Simpson Millar online as I combed through several solicitors/conveyancers in the run-on to buying my house. From the person at the reception desk to Helen Martin and her team who eventually handled my case, it was seamless! I approached them on 4th April, I completed and exchanged on 15th June!! Their speed of work and the professionalism applied were equal to none. Thanq guys 👍🏽 Highly recommended!

I had a genuinely disappointing experience with Simpson Millar. After providing detailed information about my case and engaging with their enquiries team, my case was abruptly closed without any proper explanation or assessment. I then received a generic email stating they “didn’t want to disturb me” and had therefore decided to close my enquiry. This made no sense — I had not asked them to stop contacting me, nor had I disengaged. In fact, I was actively waiting for an update. I responded immediately to challenge this and asked for clarification, but no meaningful explanation was provided. There was no attempt to review the case, no feedback, and no transparency about why it was dropped. This raises serious concerns about their internal process: -Cases appear to be closed arbitrarily without client consent -There is no clear communication or accountability -Enquiries are not properly assessed despite clients taking time to submit details For a firm that promotes professionalism and client care, this experience was the opposite. It felt like my case was simply discarded without consideration. If this is how initial enquiries are handled, it does not give confidence in how they would manage a live case where communication and diligence are critical. Very disappointing.
I have been using SM for a medical negligence case , it’s been a revolving door of people handling my case , i have really lost count now who is managing it. They have been so slow to move to case along , even when they agreed with experts that the case was sound months and months went by without really doing anything , so much so we almost ran out of time .
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Simpson Millar Solicitors. After four years, my case was ultimately dismissed due to a lack of evidence and poor-quality specialist reports. This outcome was incredibly frustrating given the amount of time invested. Throughout the entire four-year period, I was constantly chasing for updates and progress. Communication was very poor, and there was no sense of continuity — I had approximately 12–13 different case handlers, which made the process chaotic and disorganised. The handling of my case caused me a great deal of unnecessary stress and anxiety. I never felt properly supported or informed, and the service fell well below what I would expect from a professional legal firm. Due to the unacceptable level of service, I am now referring Simpson Millar to the Legal Ombudsman. I would not recommend this firm to anyone seeking reliable, competent legal representation.
had a great experience with Simpson Miller Solicitors and couldn’t be more impressed with the service I received. A huge thank you to Lucy and Charlotte for all their hard work — they were professional, friendly, and really on the ball from start to finish. They got everything sorted out quickly, kept me in the loop throughout, and I was very happy with the outcome. It felt like real justice was done, and I ended up with a decent amount for the accident too. I’m really grateful for everything they did and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing legal help. Thank you again!
Avoid this solicitors. Unfairly dismissed and won our tribunal. Simpson Millar advice was to accept £20,000 based on no calculations of loss , messed up my ET1 form to the tribunal, missed out disability discrimination. We were offered £50,000 before the tribunal. We proved our overtime losses for 18 months was worth £20,000 . Simpson Millar could have and have cost us thousands of pounds.Won unfair dismissal with a different solicitor. Only writing the review to allow others to make a informed decision. Solicitor could not give us the calculation they based there very low figure on , just wanted to settle as quickly as possible.
While they were not able to take on my case due to their workload, they no useful advice to help me with my next steps, which other firms with large workloads have. That matters in medical negligence cases.
Extremely horrible service, you are met with gatekeepers to the actual solicitors you want to speak to, I was told to expect a wait of 4 weeks to let me know whether they can take my case or not.
Two months wasted, £1,200 paid — no legal advice received! I instructed Simpson Millar for specialist education law advice concerning a serious and time-sensitive matter involving my child, who was already suffering. I provided all requested documents and paid £1,200 on account. More than two months later, despite repeated chasing, I had not received a single word of legal advice — not even a preliminary view on the merits of the case. For much of that period, I had no indication that anyone had even substantively reviewed the evidence bundle I provided. I repeatedly had to chase simply to find out whether my documents had been received, whether my case was being reviewed and when I might receive the advice I had paid for. Promised timescales passed and the advice was postponed again. Eventually I lost confidence and terminated the instruction, requesting a full refund so that I could instruct another specialist firm. Even my formal complaint and termination email received no acknowledgement after two full working days. This has cost me not only more than two months, but considerable personal time chasing, researching other solicitors and now having to start again. This involved a child who was suffering. Time mattered. The money can be refunded. The time lost cannot be returned.
I contacted Simpson Millar on 24 August regarding a public law matter and provided detailed information about my case, including the potential limitation issue and the time-sensitive nature of the matter. After speaking with their contact centre and providing the information requested, I waited until 10 September to be told that their specialist team was unable to take on my case because they were at capacity. I completely understand that a firm may not have the capacity to accept every case. My concern is the 17 day delay in communicating this, particularly as I had to follow up three times by email and once by telephone to obtain a response. I also found it difficult to get through by telephone, as the phone line was consistently very busy. This is particularly concerning given that many public law matters are subject to strict time limits, often as short as three months. I had specifically raised the potential limitation issue in my correspondence. In a case where strict time limits may apply, 17 days is a significant amount of time to lose while simply waiting to find out whether a firm is able to assist. At no point during that period was I warned that the assessment might take too long in relation to the potential limitation issue. My criticism is therefore not that Simpson Millar declined my case. It is the way the enquiry was handled and the lack of timely communication about their capacity. If a firm's current workload means that it can take 17 days simply to inform a prospective client that it cannot take on a potentially time-sensitive matter, I believe it would be more appropriate to manage the intake of new enquiries accordingly rather than leave people waiting while potentially losing valuable time to seek alternative legal advice. This was particularly disappointing because administrative delay and the consequences of poor communication have been central concerns in my own case from the outset. I would have expected a legal firm to be especially mindful of the importance of timely communication and limitation periods.
Wasted 2 hours of my time to give my story for no win no fee solicitor for personal injury claim where I've been assaulted at work and today they don't want to provide this service where in fact by SRA Regulations is their duty to do so. That's totally scandalous and will be reported to relevant legal authorities.
