Poor communication and no follow-through

I had a genuinely disappointing experience with Simpson Millar. After providing detailed information about my case and engaging with their enquiries team, my case was abruptly closed without any proper explanation or assessment. I then received a generic email stating they “didn’t want to disturb me” and had therefore decided to close my enquiry. This made no sense — I had not asked them to stop contacting me, nor had I disengaged. In fact, I was actively waiting for an update. I responded immediately to challenge this and asked for clarification, but no meaningful explanation was provided. There was no attempt to review the case, no feedback, and no transparency about why it was dropped. This raises serious concerns about their internal process: -Cases appear to be closed arbitrarily without client consent -There is no clear communication or accountability -Enquiries are not properly assessed despite clients taking time to submit details For a firm that promotes professionalism and client care, this experience was the opposite. It felt like my case was simply discarded without consideration. If this is how initial enquiries are handled, it does not give confidence in how they would manage a live case where communication and diligence are critical. Very disappointing.

Clinical Negligence

The revolving door of case handlers

I have been using SM for a medical negligence case , it’s been a revolving door of people handling my case , i have really lost count now who is managing it. They have been so slow to move to case along , even when they agreed with experts that the case was sound months and months went by without really doing anything , so much so we almost ran out of time .

A representative from Simpson Millar LLP responded to this review

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear how frustrating your experience has felt, particularly around continuity and the changes in who has been handling your case. We understand how unsettling that can be, especially in a complex medical negligence matter. Whilst your case remains ongoing, we appreciate that delays and changes in contact can cause understandable concern. Please be assured that the matter continues to be actively progressed, and decisions are being taken carefully and with your best interests in mind. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, or if there’s anything specific you’d like us to review, please contact us at reviews@simpsonmillar.co.uk so we can look into this in more detail. Wishing you all the best, The Simpson Millar Team

Personal Injury

One star is to much

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Simpson Millar Solicitors. After four years, my case was ultimately dismissed due to a lack of evidence and poor-quality specialist reports. This outcome was incredibly frustrating given the amount of time invested. Throughout the entire four-year period, I was constantly chasing for updates and progress. Communication was very poor, and there was no sense of continuity — I had approximately 12–13 different case handlers, which made the process chaotic and disorganised. The handling of my case caused me a great deal of unnecessary stress and anxiety. I never felt properly supported or informed, and the service fell well below what I would expect from a professional legal firm. Due to the unacceptable level of service, I am now referring Simpson Millar to the Legal Ombudsman. I would not recommend this firm to anyone seeking reliable, competent legal representation.

A representative from Simpson Millar LLP responded to this review

Thank you for sharing your review. We are very sorry to hear how disappointed you feel about your experience and we recognise how upsetting it is when a case does not conclude in the way a client hopes, particularly after such a long period of time. We understand the frustration caused by the outcome of your case and the impact this has had on you. All advice provided was given carefully, based on the evidence available at the time and with your best interests in mind. Unfortunately, there are occasions where, despite extensive work being undertaken, the available evidence and expert opinion mean that a claim cannot be successfully progressed. Great job !

had a great experience with Simpson Miller Solicitors and couldn’t be more impressed with the service I received. A huge thank you to Lucy and Charlotte for all their hard work — they were professional, friendly, and really on the ball from start to finish. They got everything sorted out quickly, kept me in the loop throughout, and I was very happy with the outcome. It felt like real justice was done, and I ended up with a decent amount for the accident too. I’m really grateful for everything they did and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing legal help. Thank you again!

A representative from Simpson Millar LLP responded to this review

We’re so pleased to hear you had such a positive experience and that Lucy and Charlotte’s support made a real difference throughout your claim. It’s great to know you felt well looked after and kept informed, and that the outcome felt fair and worthwhile. We’ll be sure to pass on your kind words to the team. If we can ever assist you again in the future, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Wishing you all the best, The Simpson Millar Team

Employment

Never assessed our claim

Avoid this solicitors. Unfairly dismissed and won our tribunal. Simpson Millar advice was to accept £20,000 based on no calculations of loss , messed up my ET1 form to the tribunal, missed out disability discrimination. We were offered £50,000 before the tribunal. We proved our overtime losses for 18 months was worth £20,000 . Simpson Millar could have and have cost us thousands of pounds.Won unfair dismissal with a different solicitor. Only writing the review to allow others to make a informed decision. Solicitor could not give us the calculation they based there very low figure on , just wanted to settle as quickly as possible.

I contacted Simpson Millar on 24 August regarding a public law matter and provided detailed information about my case, including the potential limitation issue and the time-sensitive nature of the matter. After speaking with their contact centre and providing the information requested, I waited until 10 September to be told that their specialist team was unable to take on my case because they were at capacity. I completely understand that a firm may not have the capacity to accept every case. My concern is the 17 day delay in communicating this, particularly as I had to follow up three times by email and once by telephone to obtain a response. I also found it difficult to get through by telephone, as the phone line was consistently very busy. This is particularly concerning given that many public law matters are subject to strict time limits, often as short as three months. I had specifically raised the potential limitation issue in my correspondence. In a case where strict time limits may apply, 17 days is a significant amount of time to lose while simply waiting to find out whether a firm is able to assist. At no point during that period was I warned that the assessment might take too long in relation to the potential limitation issue. My criticism is therefore not that Simpson Millar declined my case. It is the way the enquiry was handled and the lack of timely communication about their capacity. If a firm's current workload means that it can take 17 days simply to inform a prospective client that it cannot take on a potentially time-sensitive matter, I believe it would be more appropriate to manage the intake of new enquiries accordingly rather than leave people waiting while potentially losing valuable time to seek alternative legal advice. This was particularly disappointing because administrative delay and the consequences of poor communication have been central concerns in my own case from the outset. I would have expected a legal firm to be especially mindful of the importance of timely communication and limitation periods.

Wasted 2 hours of my time to give my story for no win no fee solicitor for personal injury claim where I've been assaulted at work and today they don't want to provide this service where in fact by SRA Regulations is their duty to do so. That's totally scandalous and will be reported to relevant legal authorities.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We would like the opportunity to locate your enquiry and look into the circumstances you have described. Please email reviews@simpsonmillar.co.uk with your full name and, if available, your enquiry reference number. Once we have these details, we can review what happened and look into your concerns further. Wishing you all the best, The Simpson Millar Team

I called in June and spent around an hour giving all my details. Despite calling several times over the last 8 weeks I am still waiting for a callback from Eleanor. Needless to say we are now seeking a new solicitor.

After having an accident at work and starting the process of a claim with a different solicitor who wasted almost 3 yrs and achieved nothing, I was taken on by Simpson Millar. The change of pace was staggering, in less than a year an offer was made and throughout the whole process I was kept informed and had everything explained and set out for me. At no point was I not informed of progress and upcoming decisions, it was all done at a time that suited my schedule and work life. Can’t thank the team enough for all their patience and guidance throughout this whole process and stressful time. 10 out of 10.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We are delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience with our team following your accident at work. It is wonderful to know that you were kept fully informed throughout your claim, with each stage and upcoming decision clearly explained. We are also pleased that the team worked around your schedule and provided the patience and guidance you needed during what was understandably a stressful time. Your 10 out of 10 means a great deal to us, and we will be sure to share your kind comments with the team. If you ever need legal advice or support in the future, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Wishing you all the best, The Simpson Millar Team
