Disappointing Service, No Case Management
I am deeply disappointed with the service provided by Kate Evans at KJ Smith Solicitors and would strongly advise avoiding the Oxford branch altogether. Even in urgent situations, there are far better solicitors available locally. Her case management is non-existent. Her legal knowledge appears largely theoretical, with no meaningful engagement or ability — or willingness — to apply it to the realities of a complex case. She is comfortable producing lengthy but basic emails at £260 + VAT per hour, yet that is essentially all that is offered. She charged £2,500 to read a court bundle and answer six questions in writing. However, after the initial consultation, I was never offered another in-person meeting, solely because I had not signed a full retainer. Unless you commit thousands more upfront, meaningful engagement appears to be off the table. To be clear, I can read, write, complete court forms, and conduct legal research myself. What I was paying for was professional guidance, strategic case management, and experienced direction. Instead, I received generic written responses, no discussion, no practical advice, and no sense of ownership of the case. Overall, the service provided barely qualifies as a professional service at all. With sufficient time, online resources, and AI support, the same level of information can be obtained independently. I awarded two stars solely for the effort of drafting lengthy emails. Beyond that, I received no significant value, no support, and no professional engagement.
