Top 10 of 1,643 law firms for Non Consensual Adoption, Child Law

Law firms ranked by client reviews

Non-consensual adoption covers cases where a child is placed for adoption despite a parent or guardian not agreeing to it, typically driven by the child’s welfare. In England, a local authority may initiate care proceedings and pursue an adoption order under the Adoption and Children Act 2002, with permanency secured through court order after welfare investigations, best interests assessments, and involvement of an adoption panel. A solicitor drafts and argues the application, handles evidence, guardianship and contact arrangements, and represents the client in family proceedings throughout the process.

What a solicitor handles in these matters

The process hinges on welfare judgments, the availability of care plans, and the court’s decision on adoption. The solicitor coordinates social services reports, legal submissions, and any appeals, while safeguarding the child’s interests and ensuring compliance with court directions and timescales. Professional accountability, including regulated conduct and client safeguarding, underpins the representation.

My husband and I are citizens of the United States. We needed the services of a firm that would specialize in family law because we were being denied reasonable access to our grandchild who lives in the U.K with her parents. There had been a breakdown in communication between the adults over a money matter and and the parents of our grandchild were keeping us from having regular visits; most of them being through Skype because of the geographic distance between us. We tried in vain for several months to work this out with the parents directilhy but they were determined to keep our contact with our grandchild to the bare minimum and we were devastated by this because we love our grandchild beyond measure. We began to interview family law firms when we realized we were going to have to have help to resolve the matter. After speaking with a couple of firms we were feeling a bit discouraged until we found Fiona Bruce Solicitors. To say the were a send to us would be an understatement. Throughout the whole process they were professional, understanding and compassionate. Our case was handled expertly by Solicitor Leah Knight. We were well aware that in the U.K. grandparents rights are not held in the same regard as they are in the United States and so we were unsure that we would even have our case heard by the court. However, Ms. Knight helped us forge ahead with thoughtful representation at every turn. She guided us through the process and always made us feel comfortable; explaining matters, answering our many questions and, at times she did some hand holding (even if it was over Skype). It was difficult and painful for us to bring our matter to court but we knew we had to do this in order to have our visiting and communication restored with our grandchild, who is at a very tender young age. Ms. Knight never waivered in her representation for us. She honored our time and was always prompt in her responses to our questions. She knew how difficult this was for us but she gave us the confidence to keep moving forward. We got through the process and were elated when the court ruled in our favor. Afterwards we said to ourselves, "If this is the kind of representation Leah Knight gives grandparents from the United States, imagine how she and her firm would be working for clients within the U.K.!" We will be forever grateful to Ms. Knight- and to the whole team at Fiona Bruce and we recommend them to anyone seeking counsel in a matter of family law.
