Attempted rape covers situations where a person intends to commit rape and takes substantial steps to do so, even if the act is not completed. A solicitor representing a client in this area reviews the evidence, advises on disclosure and police interviews, and helps with preparation for charging decisions, trial strategy, and potential defences. They draft and file applications, challenge evidence where appropriate, and represent the client at court, including trials and sentencing hearings.
Why this work is usually handled by a solicitor
Professional safeguards apply: solicitors must adhere to regulatory standards, maintain client accounts, and operate within a framework of professional conduct and client confidentiality. They ensure compliant handling of evidence, disclosure, and advocacy rights in all proceedings, protecting the client’s rights throughout investigations and the trial process.
