Top 10 of 4,157 law firms for Divorce Petition Grounds, Family Law

Law firms ranked by client reviews

This area covers the grounds on which a divorce petition can be based in England, typically framed as irretrievable breakdown supported by one of five facts: adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion, two years’ separation with the other party’s consent, or five years’ separation without consent. A solicitor helps draft and advance the petition, prepare and respond to evidence, liaise with the court, identify appropriate financial relief and arrange arrangements for children. The process hinges on the factual basis chosen and the timing of steps in court proceedings.

What a solicitor handles in these matters

A solicitor drafts the petition, gathers supporting evidence or corroboration, serves papers on the respondent, and manages any responsive defenses. They may advise on whether to pursue separation with consent or a longer separation, prepare statements of arrangements for money and children, and navigate court directions, interim orders, and eventual decree. They also handle communications with the Family Court and, if needed, mediation or contested steps.

Ian Brunt

Tagged solicitor Ian Brunt

I worked with Ian regarding an Adoption case. I am an Advocate and I was the Litigation Friend for Dad. Ian was fantastic with the person I was supporting. Ian took time to explain to Dad, in great, simplistic language, what was happening, what Dad's rights where, and how I could help, and Ian could help too. Myself and Ian had a wonderful working relationship, ensuring the best possible outcome for Dad, working in joint partnership. Ian took great steps to explain in clear and honest communication what Dad's rights were, even in what was a very difficult case. Ian was knowledgeable, professional, responsive and always had a friendly smile to greet us. I would use Ian again and would recommend him to the colleagues in my organisation.

Julie Munday

Tagged solicitor Julie Munday

Extremely knowledgeable, everyone at Taylor and Emmett goes above and beyond to help. Julie Munday (family law) is absolutely fantastic, her experience in family law makes her the best lawyer you could hope for to represent you. She made sure I understood the family court process, what each outcome could be, helped me to understand all the documents and made sure I had statements that covered everything that I needed to benefit my side of the case. Her advice was always straightforward and informative and also compassionate (a lot of court professionals lack this skill, but family court can be very emotional and it helps to have someone on your side who is not only knowledgeable and experienced but also understanding of the emotional impact these cases can have on parents and family). I would highly recommend Taylor and Emmett and Julie Munday.

I was going through divorve and having a hard time with solicitors from the other arty. Paris Smith helped cut through the unecessary noise and back my corner. I was having daily panic attacks and waiting weeks for replies from the other firm, only to have to repeat myself. The proocess still tookj far longer than I imagined but I dont feel this was because of my firm, as they dealt with my replies promptly and chased the other firm to wrap things up.

Ajantha Brabaharan

Tagged solicitor Ajantha Brabaharan

Ajantha handled my FLR(M) application as an unmarried partner, and from the moment she took it on she went through everything with me point by point. Nothing was assumed and nothing was left for me to guess at. Every time I contacted her she came back quickly, and the answers were never generic. I have dealt with a lot of lawyers in the US and in Korea over the years, and what stood out here was that she responded to my actual situation rather than reciting the rules back at me. When something was unclear she told me what it meant for me specifically. There were several points where the online system threw errors, and more than a few where the problem was simply my own mistake. I know I made her job harder than it needed to be. She never once let it show. She stayed calm, told me what to do next, and made sure I did not panic about any of it. On more than one occasion she was still helping me well outside office hours. When the decision came through she let me know straight away, before anyone else, and she sounded as pleased about it as I was. That is not something I expected from a solicitor, and after months of waiting it meant a great deal. English is not my first language and immigration rules are hard to follow even in plain English. Ajantha made the whole thing manageable. I will be applying for an extension in a few years and I would not consider going to anyone else. Sincere thank you for everything, Ajantha.

Upon meeting Graham Twist my solicitor I was impressed with his knowledge and the time he took to listen to my concerns. He was very approachable and understanding. Ian Spender

Tagged solicitor Ian Spender

Mr Spender came to our home, as my husband and I found great difficulty in climbing the stairs to his office. He took great trouble in explaining the Lasting Power of Attorney to us. I was able to read the forms, but my husband, who has Macular Degeneration could not. Mr Spender spent time and effort in reading the forms to him. In fact, nothing was too much trouble for Mr Spender, who put us both at ease. I highly recommend Mr Spender for his professionalism and his genuine concern for our welfare.
