Never assessed our claim

Avoid this solicitors. Unfairly dismissed and won our tribunal. Simpson Millar advice was to accept £20,000 based on no calculations of loss , messed up my ET1 form to the tribunal, missed out disability discrimination. We were offered £50,000 before the tribunal. We proved our overtime losses for 18 months was worth £20,000 . Simpson Millar could have and have cost us thousands of pounds.Won unfair dismissal with a different solicitor. Only writing the review to allow others to make a informed decision. Solicitor could not give us the calculation they based there very low figure on , just wanted to settle as quickly as possible.

Unfair dismissal

Mr Stephen Pinder represented me when I was let down by my union/solicitor...I had nowhere to turn after being unfairly dismissed from one of the largest companies in the country but mr Pinder took a look at my case and said that he would relish the challenge! He was very honest from the outset and gave me all of the pros and cons, he was very very thorough and meticulous in his approach...we went to court and I fell to bits a little but mr Pinder was excellent throughout...so professional! We won our case and I cleared my name which had been tarnished! I would recommend this man before anyone if you have any type of employment issues...thankyou again mr pinder

Adam is an incredible lawyer. He has been by my side from the very beginning—nearly five years—and believed in me when no one else did. When the first offer came in and I didn’t want to accept it, he supported my decision without hesitation. Even while he was on holiday, I was advised by another team member to take the low offer, but I chose to wait for Adam’s guidance. When he returned, he stood firmly with me. Over the following months, through multiple offers and counteroffers, Adam never stopped fighting for me. In the end, we reached an unbelievable agreement—one that was only possible because he truly believed in me from start to finish. Adam is not just an outstanding lawyer; he has become a friend. I am incredibly grateful for everything he has done.

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt review. It is clear how much this process has meant to you, and we’re so pleased to hear how supported you felt throughout your case. Your feedback shows just how committed Adam was from the very beginning, and how much it meant to you that he believed in you, stood by your decisions, and continued negotiating on your behalf until the final agreement was reached. It’s wonderful to know that his consistency, reassurance, and determination over the past five years made such a difference, especially during moments when you were receiving mixed advice. We will make sure Adam sees your kind words. If you ever need legal support again in the future, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Wishing you all the best, The Simpson Millar Team

Would highly recommend. Being 1 of 1000’s of employees who faced redundancy during covid I wasn’t expecting much in terms of compensation that wasn’t already deemed by the government. However I was pleasantly surprised with what I received this week. Great communication, stress-free process and professional through out.

I had an excellent experience with Simpson Millar in handling my protective award claim. Despite the process taking a considerable amount of time, their communication was outstanding throughout. They consistently kept me informed with regular updates, which really put my mind at ease. The end result was fantastic, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I would definitely recommend Simpson Millar to anyone in need of professional and reliable legal services! Thanks again.

In the year 2020 , I was made redundant from Debenhams in Harrow which had been closed down due to going into insolvency twice and ultimately just shutting down as a whole Many companies were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as a result and were forced to shut down indefinitely, by the losses of income , being unable to keep up with debts , expenses etc . I lost my job so abruptly , and it put me in position where I was unemployed for quite a long time , I felt I was wronged , as I wasn't made redundant professionally, it was done through a live call featuring other employees too, who had also lost their jobs , I was informed about the protective claim through one of my colleagues and sought to be recompensed for what I had lost during my period of being unemployed. I signed up for the protective claim , I was informed about the process and I was updated for years on the status of the process and how things were going forward . The process took about 4 years , but now that it's been settled , I'm happy to see that my concerns were actually tended too and I want to thank Sabina Tariq and the Simpson Millar Solicitors family for their patience and resolving my issue. Attached below is the payment I received this morning. Thank you Christopher Acheampong-Duah

Thank you for sharing your experience, Christopher. We understand how challenging and unsettling the circumstances surrounding your redundancy from Debenhams must have been, especially during such an uncertain time as the COVID-19 pandemic. Poor communication and no follow-through

I had a genuinely disappointing experience with Simpson Millar. After providing detailed information about my case and engaging with their enquiries team, my case was abruptly closed without any proper explanation or assessment. I then received a generic email stating they “didn’t want to disturb me” and had therefore decided to close my enquiry. This made no sense — I had not asked them to stop contacting me, nor had I disengaged. In fact, I was actively waiting for an update. I responded immediately to challenge this and asked for clarification, but no meaningful explanation was provided. There was no attempt to review the case, no feedback, and no transparency about why it was dropped. This raises serious concerns about their internal process: -Cases appear to be closed arbitrarily without client consent -There is no clear communication or accountability -Enquiries are not properly assessed despite clients taking time to submit details For a firm that promotes professionalism and client care, this experience was the opposite. It felt like my case was simply discarded without consideration. If this is how initial enquiries are handled, it does not give confidence in how they would manage a live case where communication and diligence are critical. Very disappointing.

Clinical Negligence

The revolving door of case handlers

I have been using SM for a medical negligence case , it’s been a revolving door of people handling my case , i have really lost count now who is managing it. They have been so slow to move to case along , even when they agreed with experts that the case was sound months and months went by without really doing anything , so much so we almost ran out of time .

A representative from Simpson Millar LLP responded to this review

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear how frustrating your experience has felt, particularly around continuity and the changes in who has been handling your case. We understand how unsettling that can be, especially in a complex medical negligence matter. Whilst your case remains ongoing, we appreciate that delays and changes in contact can cause understandable concern. Please be assured that the matter continues to be actively progressed, and decisions are being taken carefully and with your best interests in mind. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, or if there’s anything specific you’d like us to review, please contact us at reviews@simpsonmillar.co.uk so we can look into this in more detail. Personal Injury

One star is to much

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Simpson Millar Solicitors. After four years, my case was ultimately dismissed due to a lack of evidence and poor-quality specialist reports. This outcome was incredibly frustrating given the amount of time invested. Throughout the entire four-year period, I was constantly chasing for updates and progress. Communication was very poor, and there was no sense of continuity — I had approximately 12–13 different case handlers, which made the process chaotic and disorganised. The handling of my case caused me a great deal of unnecessary stress and anxiety. I never felt properly supported or informed, and the service fell well below what I would expect from a professional legal firm. Due to the unacceptable level of service, I am now referring Simpson Millar to the Legal Ombudsman. I would not recommend this firm to anyone seeking reliable, competent legal representation.

A representative from Simpson Millar LLP responded to this review

Thank you for sharing your review. We are very sorry to hear how disappointed you feel about your experience and we recognise how upsetting it is when a case does not conclude in the way a client hopes, particularly after such a long period of time. We understand the frustration caused by the outcome of your case and the impact this has had on you. All advice provided was given carefully, based on the evidence available at the time and with your best interests in mind. Unfortunately, there are occasions where, despite extensive work being undertaken, the available evidence and expert opinion mean that a claim cannot be successfully progressed. Great job !

had a great experience with Simpson Miller Solicitors and couldn’t be more impressed with the service I received. A huge thank you to Lucy and Charlotte for all their hard work — they were professional, friendly, and really on the ball from start to finish. They got everything sorted out quickly, kept me in the loop throughout, and I was very happy with the outcome. It felt like real justice was done, and I ended up with a decent amount for the accident too. I’m really grateful for everything they did and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing legal help. Thank you again!

While they were not able to take on my case due to their workload, they no useful advice to help me with my next steps, which other firms with large workloads have. That matters in medical negligence cases.

Extremely horrible service, you are met with gatekeepers to the actual solicitors you want to speak to, I was told to expect a wait of 4 weeks to let me know whether they can take my case or not.

Two months wasted, £1,200 paid — no legal advice received! I instructed Simpson Millar for specialist education law advice concerning a serious and time-sensitive matter involving my child, who was already suffering. I provided all requested documents and paid £1,200 on account. More than two months later, despite repeated chasing, I had not received a single word of legal advice — not even a preliminary view on the merits of the case. For much of that period, I had no indication that anyone had even substantively reviewed the evidence bundle I provided. I repeatedly had to chase simply to find out whether my documents had been received, whether my case was being reviewed and when I might receive the advice I had paid for. Promised timescales passed and the advice was postponed again. Eventually I lost confidence and terminated the instruction, requesting a full refund so that I could instruct another specialist firm. Even my formal complaint and termination email received no acknowledgement after two full working days. This has cost me not only more than two months, but considerable personal time chasing, researching other solicitors and now having to start again. This involved a child who was suffering. Time mattered. The money can be refunded. The time lost cannot be returned.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are very sorry that the service you received fell short of the standard you should have been able to expect from us. We fully appreciate how important it was for you to receive timely advice, particularly given the circumstances involving your child, and we recognise the frustration and additional stress caused by the delays. You should not have had to repeatedly chase for updates or wait as long as you did for the advice you had instructed us to provide. We are particularly sorry that, after placing your trust in us, you were left feeling that you had no option but to seek legal support elsewhere. We understand that refunding the fees you paid cannot make up for the time you have lost or the inconvenience and frustration this experience has caused. Your feedback is being taken seriously and will be reviewed internally. We are sorry that we did not provide the level of service and support you should have received from us on this occasion. We wish you and your family all the very best moving forward, The Simpson Millar Team

I contacted Simpson Millar on 24 August regarding a public law matter and provided detailed information about my case, including the potential limitation issue and the time-sensitive nature of the matter. After speaking with their contact centre and providing the information requested, I waited until 10 September to be told that their specialist team was unable to take on my case because they were at capacity. I completely understand that a firm may not have the capacity to accept every case. My concern is the 17 day delay in communicating this, particularly as I had to follow up three times by email and once by telephone to obtain a response. I also found it difficult to get through by telephone, as the phone line was consistently very busy. This is particularly concerning given that many public law matters are subject to strict time limits, often as short as three months. I had specifically raised the potential limitation issue in my correspondence. In a case where strict time limits may apply, 17 days is a significant amount of time to lose while simply waiting to find out whether a firm is able to assist. At no point during that period was I warned that the assessment might take too long in relation to the potential limitation issue. My criticism is therefore not that Simpson Millar declined my case. It is the way the enquiry was handled and the lack of timely communication about their capacity. If a firm's current workload means that it can take 17 days simply to inform a prospective client that it cannot take on a potentially time-sensitive matter, I believe it would be more appropriate to manage the intake of new enquiries accordingly rather than leave people waiting while potentially losing valuable time to seek alternative legal advice. This was particularly disappointing because administrative delay and the consequences of poor communication have been central concerns in my own case from the outset. I would have expected a legal firm to be especially mindful of the importance of timely communication and limitation periods.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand your concerns about the time taken to reach a decision on your enquiry, particularly as you had highlighted that your matter may be time-sensitive. Having reviewed your enquiry, we can confirm that it continued to progress during this period. Following our initial attempt to contact you by telephone, you asked to continue the assessment by email and provided further information for our team to consider. This information formed part of the assessment before your enquiry was referred to the relevant specialist team. Unfortunately, the team was ultimately unable to accept your case due to its current capacity. There are times when we may need to limit the number of new cases we accept based on the existing workload within a particular team. This helps ensure that the clients we do represent receive the appropriate level of time, attention and support throughout their case. We do, however, appreciate your concerns about how long the assessment process took, particularly where potential time limits had been raised. Your feedback has been shared with the relevant team and will help us review how we manage and communicate time-sensitive enquiries. We wish you all the best in finding the legal support you need. Wasted 2 hours of my time to give my story for no win no fee solicitor for personal injury claim where I've been assaulted at work and today they don't want to provide this service where in fact by SRA Regulations is their duty to do so. That's totally scandalous and will be reported to relevant legal authorities.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We would like the opportunity to locate your enquiry and look into the circumstances you have described. Please email reviews@simpsonmillar.co.uk with your full name and, if available, your enquiry reference number.
