I have used EMG solicitors 4 times in 5 years. Each occasion, they make excellent use of support staff who are always up to the job. I have always been given a day when I can expect a response. Once or twice the report back was to explain a delay. But solicitors and staff make sure I know what's happening and why. An expanding business who deserve their success. They have also been proactive in suggesting things I didn't know about or didn't realise were beneficial. Well worth the money.

Thanks for the great review!
I am a 10 year client of EMG Solicitors Limited under a UK Court of Protection deputyship managed by Emma Mary Gaudern and Jemma Claire Morland. By way of background, I am a permanent resident abroad where I have lived for 13 years, and I was assessed as having mental capacity under local law in 2024, yet the UK deputyship continues. Months ago I informed the deputies via email and WhatsApp of my plans to remain permanently abroad and naturalize in my country of residence. This is a long-considered decision reflecting my 13-year commitment to where I live and to establish it as my permanent home. The deputies acknowledged this but have not adequately planned for the implications on my UK assets, raising serious questions about whether they are acting in my best interests. My investment portfolio has experienced significant losses exceeding £300,000 that have never been properly explained despite repeated requests for transparency. The deputies control over £2,000,000 of my funds yet refuse to provide adequate cost breakdowns or explanations for investment decisions, fees, and charges. When I ask for transparency about how my money is being managed, I get vague responses or silence. Ms. Gaudern and Mrs. Morland are appointed for property and financial affairs only, yet they have repeatedly made decisions affecting my healthcare and personal welfare, which exceeds their authority. When I experienced potential cancer symptoms, they were difficult to contact and released only £300 for urgent medical assessment despite the seriousness of the situation. After my partner died from cancer, they withheld funds for housing and nearly made me homeless during the most difficult period of my life. They contacted my medical insurance provider without my consent, raising serious privacy concerns. They treat my healthcare as a budget item and gatekeep medical decisions based on cost, which is not within their remit as deputies for property and affairs. Following my partner's death, neither deputies extended any condolences or showed basic human empathy. This lack of compassion, combined with withholding funds for her treatment and my related needs, showed a concerning focus on control over care. They essentially treated her as if she didn't exist, which compounded the distress during an already unbearable time. They filed a discharge application but did not serve all relevant documents and cancelled my participation in the hearing against my wishes. The process lacked transparency and prevented proper scrutiny. Now they are requesting the UK Court to exercise authority in a foreign jurisdiction where it has no power, attempting to override local laws on my capacity. This is a troubling overreach that disrespects local sovereignty and legal system, particularly given that I have been assessed as having capacity here and plan to naturalize in my country of residence. I have raised these concerns through appropriate channels. I am seeking independent legal advice in both the UK and abroad regarding discharge of the deputyship, limitation of the deputies' authority, recognition of my local capacity assessment, and implications of my planned naturalization. I would strongly advise others in similar situations, particularly those living abroad with local capacity assessments and plans to naturalize in their country of residence, or those experiencing concerns about deputies exceeding their authority or facing inadequate financial transparency, to seek independent legal advice about their rights and options for challenging or limiting deputyships. The system needs greater oversight to prevent deputies from exceeding their authority and to ensure they act in clients' best interests rather than prioritizing control. EMG claim to dispute everything and to have contacted me privately, but as of 28 January 2026, I have not received any private communication from EMG addressing these specific concerns. The lack of response speaks volumes about their willingness to engage with legitimate grievances.
Hello, we're sorry to read you were unhappy with our service. Due to client confidentiality, we cannot comment in detail in a public forum, but we have already been in touch with you privately. We should however state publicly that you have made a number of serious and potentially damaging allegations which we dispute in their entirety.
Claire is a consummate professional. She helped with a Deputyship application for my mum. She explained each step clearly and made herself available for calls when needed. She made a stressful process as smooth as possible. I would recommend her to anyone looking for an attorney in this specialized field of wills, trust & probate.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate the positive feedback you have given us and look forward to working with you in the future.
My 95 year old Mum needed to renew her Will and Nathan kindly came to the house to establish her wishes. The process was easy and smooth from start to finish. Nathan even managed to cope with her poor speech quality. I have used the Commercial side of the EMG on several occasions previously, which is also very impressive in getting results.

Very very upset with emg solicitors. Used them to help with a problem. Bleed my son dry with bills that were unexpected overpriced and never explained.Hidden minimum phone call times 6 min increments charging him for calls from the person we were in dispute with and seemly chatting to them for longer than any of his calls to them .Charging for e mails and separate charge for attachments to said e mail. BEWARE of the hidden costs and poor advice
Hi Joan, we are sorry to read of your concerns. As you have pointed out in your review, we did not act on your behalf in this matter so are unable to comment further and we cannot trace your son's file within our records without further information. We always take feedback seriously at EMG so please feel free to get in touch with the Quality team on 0191 594 0240 or at complaints@emgsolicitors.com if you would like to discuss your comments. Thanks
I have had dealings with several legal firms over the years and Samantha and the team at EMG are head and shoulders above the rest. Compassionate, thoroughly efficient and very helpful. Thank you EMG.

Thanks for the great review Eric!
Avoid EMG at all costs!!. Totally incompetent - my experience was of being passed from pillar to post as the solicitor representing me (Julia Middleton) was either constantly on leave or unavailable and then constantly fobbed me off on to other underqualified colleagues (who were equally unaware or out of touch with the details of my case). The firm routinely overcharges for what is extremely poor quality service - including multiple frivolous charge items. Far more focused as a firm on profit generation than they are on customer service - would strongly recommend you look elsewhere. I entrusted my child arrangements case to this firm and its a decision I bitterly regret as they did nothing but let me down from start to finish whilst making exorbitant, excessive and quite frankly extortionate charges for the privilege. I am now seriously considering taking my concerns about their (mal)practice to the ombudsman to investigate further. Do yourself a favour and employ anyone else than these people!!
Dear Marcus, we are sorry to hear of your disappointment. We have already been in touch with you privately.
EMG solicitors have been fantastic. They have sorted wills, POA and tenants in common for us. Samantha has also attended the DST and Financial Assessment meetings with me as my husband is now in a care home. Support is invaluable as my family have opted out. Cannot thank you enough.

Thank you for continuing to choose EMG Solicitors Edith.
I am 97 years old and am wheelchair dependent. I live 300 metres from the new venue of EMG in Gosforth and as it happened I was about to arrange for Lasting Powers of Attorney for myself and my wife elsewhere. Consequently I telephoned and spoke to Samantha Edwards who, when asked what the charge would be to come to my house to discuss my requirements, immediately answered that if it was physically difficult for me to attend at their office then she would happily come to my home at no extra charge. We spent an hour or more in discussion at the end of which she put forward suggestions which we agreed on and within a few days had produced draft wills and LPAs. Their charges were moderate and on our recommendation one of our sons is now in touch with her to follow our actions. The firm appears to be very efficient and progressive and are not 'clock watchers'.

Thanks for the great review Maurice!
We recently sold our flat and purchased our new home through EMG Solicitors, and I honestly couldn't recommend them highly enough. They made what can often be a stressful process feel smooth and straightforward from start to finish. Communication was always quick, efficient, and professional. Whenever we had pressure from our buyers or needed advice, the team was there to help and keep everything moving forward. A special mention has to go to Joanne, who was absolutely incredible throughout the entire process. She always made us feel like we were her top priority and genuinely went above and beyond to support us every step of the way. Chloe was also amazing. She was so friendly, approachable, and efficient in her communication, making it easy to stay informed and reassured throughout the transaction. Overall, the service was 10 out of 10. Not only were Joanne and Chloe exceptionally professional, but they were also genuinely lovely people to deal with, which made the whole experience so much better. Thank you both for all your hard work!
Thanks for the great review Iona!
