House sale and new house purchase conveyance

Our conveyancer was Matt Wreyford. Very satisfied on all fronts with the advice, work attention to detail and perseverance of the whole process through a stressful sale and a drawn out purchase and move from Devon to Sussex.

Awful rude and take no responsibility for mistakes

A previous solicitor gave wrong advice which I acted on. Has since resigned. They cannot contact him and say they have no ties. Despite him being in their employ at the time. This has cost me thousands. They refuse to engage with me and ignore me. Avoid this form at all costs. They are unhelpful and do not care about the impact on me.

Simply Awful April 2023

Alyson Coulson was the solicitor handling my fathers will, where I was a 1/3rd share benefactor along with my two sisters. I would not recommend her. On numerous occasions she failed to respond to voice messages requesting a call back on important matters that she herself raised in writing. Her email responses out of 12 emails came back 9 Out of Office which to date have been unanswered. Worse than that, following Gilbert Stephens Exeter own Complaints Policy, their Complaints Manager emailed me and copied Alyson Coulson promising that she would respond within 48 hours. 4 days later, there has been no response from either Alyson Coulson or The Complaints Manager of Gilbert Stephens. This would appear to be a case that Alyson Coulson must only be a part time/working from home solicitor and not be able to properly manager her affairs. When solicitors who are fee based per email/letter they send can't be bothered to send you a courtesy email stating they have received your communication then that surely must put their reputation and that of their employers, Gilbert Stephens Exeter, in serious doubt.

Poor experience for conveyancing

The first person we had contact with at Gilbert Stephens when we needed a company to act on our behalf for conveyancing was excellent but unable to take on our case because of workload. The person that took this on instead however was not. They don't respond to emails sooner than 2 days from receipt so that they don't disadvantage people without email. Which century are we in? We were also advised that they didn't know if they could accept money from the lenders to pass on to the vendors and suggested we should handle that ourselves. This was unbelievable. The conveyancers acting on behalf of the vendors and solicitors acting on behalf of the lenders were so much better at communicating with us and they were not acting on our behalf! Poor attention to detail did not help either. We will certainly not be using this firm of solicitors again. If you need conveyancing done, I would recommend you look elsewhere.

Professional and efficient, no job too small

We cannot thank both Sarah Heath and Laura Newbould who acted for us for a conveyancing matter. They were professional at all times and we cannot fault them. They were efficient at all times and responded to all enquiries, emails and calls promptly and no job was ever too small. They were kind enough to explain things in detail that were somewhat confusing to a first-time buyer and for what was a stressful time trying to buy a first home during a pandemic was a true indication of their skill, professionalism and dedication, causing us minimum stress. It was reassuring having someone act for you in a time of uncertainty knowing they were doing their absolute best for you, answered all calls and emails and there was not one period of silence at any time from them. We would not hesitate to recommend Gilbert Stephens to anyone. We will definitely be using Gilbert Stephens in the future, hopefully both of these girls too.

Exceptional Service

We can not praise Rebecca Cox and her assistant Molly at Gilbert Stephen enough, who acted on the sale of our farm and purchase of our new property. Rebecca and her team were very efficient, nothing was too much trouble. We would not hesitate to recommend Gilbert Stephens to anyone looking for a professional conveyance for Farms, land and Country property.

Sale and purchase of houses (in Devon). Gayle Defries

Gayle is a friendly person who has ones details always ready in a file with her. She is swift and efficient in her dealings with other solicitors, and has given them a push in the right direction when asked to do so. She has been easy to meet with in the Budleigh Salterton office, and can often be available without making a form interview time with her. Her local knowledge has been useful too.
No hesitation at all in recommending her to others at all.
