Police complaints cover the way someone reports alleged wrongdoing or poor conduct by the police, and how investigations into those concerns are conducted. A solicitor in this area helps a client draft and submit a formal complaint to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) or the police, collects evidence, interviews witnesses, and navigates any ensuing investigations, disciplinary processes or potential civil claims. They explain outcomes, deadlines, and any further steps arising from decisions or remedial action.

Where a solicitor protects your position

The process can affect a client’s rights and safety, and its outcomes may limit or shape subsequent remedies or enforcement. A solicitor provides guidance on deadlines, admissible evidence, and communications with the IOPC, police forces and investigating bodies, ensuring compliant handling of information and proper record-keeping within the regulated framework.

Although only TV Edwards attended the voluntary police interview with me, the solicitor present was highly professional, knowledgeable about the procedures, and provided clear, well-structured guidance for the interview. This preparation helped me feel more confident and ready for the questions ahead. After the interview, the solicitor thoroughly explained my next steps and reassured me of their ongoing support throughout .
