I was only made aware of my eligibility to apply for CICA after 3 years by my Woman’s Aid Counsellor. I applied by myself and it was very overwhelming. When CICAS asked for more details because I had miss the 2 year mark I became very stressed as everything was very fresh after the Trial. I knew I needed help. I searched for Criminal Injury Lawyers and a very small amount are specialised in certain Cases. Some offered me No Win No Fee, Taking 40% off any compensation that I might receive. Some I felt were pushy or far too fast to help with little information. This screamed red flags to me. When I came across Diana Mackenzie at Balfour & Manson and did my research I felt a lot more trusting. Diana’s genuine professional manner and knowlege with such a complex case made me feel at ease. She kept me informed and explained the process well. I contacted her in November 2025 and of May 2026 I was awarded £16,000 compensation. Balfour & Manson only take 25% for all costs. I am blown away by how quick my case was handled. The money will not change the past but will help to shape my future. I was a client of Michaela Guthrie, and I am extremely disappointed with the service I received. At the outset, I explained my case in detail and was advised that I had a significant amount of evidence. It was indicated that the case could result in a substantial award, and I was even told that I would require a personal injury trust, which she offered to arrange on my behalf. However, after I mentioned that I could organise my own personal injury trust, communication became minimal and, at times, non-existent for approximately ten months. With only two months remaining before my deadline, my case was then dropped. This has left me in a very difficult position, potentially at risk of losing my case entirely after three years of effort. I find this deeply concerning and frustrating. I was ultimately told that there was insufficient evidence to proceed and that taking the matter further would not change the outcome. However, I do not feel that my evidence was thoroughly reviewed, nor that adequate effort was made to explore progressing the case, including taking it to court. As a client, this experience has caused significant stress and has left me feeling unsupported and let down at a critical time. I expected clearer communication, greater transparency, and a stronger level of professional commitment. She also failed to contact to the other party. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend her services.
