This work covers private disputes about who a child lives with and sees and public law proceedings brought by local authorities, including care proceedings, placement and adoption applications, special guardianship and enforcement of contact. Solicitors draft section 8 child arrangements and specific issue applications, prepare statements and witness evidence, assemble social‑work bundles, engage with Cafcass and social services, negotiate without or attend pre‑proceedings (PLO) meetings, apply for emergency protection and represent clients in the family court and, for complex cases, in the High Court under wardship or inherent jurisdiction. The Children Act 1989 welfare checklist shapes most decisions.

“Andrew has supported me on previous occasions and, whilst he has not formally represented me throughout my recent proceedings, he has continued to provide invaluable legal guidance and support. My case has been particularly challenging. Throughout the Family Court process, Andrew took the time to walk me through documentation, sense-check correspondence from the opposing solicitor, and was even available should I have needed immediate assistance during court hearings. This was also the case through my financial remedy. One might argue that this is simply part of the job and that Foys should expect no less. However, Andrew consistently went well above and beyond what I could reasonably have expected. He not only provided sound legal advice, but also knew when the best course of action was to advise me not to respond at all, which was often just as valuable. He has always acted with the utmost professionalism. Equally important, his humour and wit have frequently shone through. During what was, at times, an isolating and overwhelming legal battle for a lay person, those moments of humanity made a real difference. It is something I will never forget. Andrew is a genuinely decent man, an exceptional solicitor, and a tremendous asset to Foys Solicitors. His experience, judgement and leadership are qualities that cannot easily be replicated. I understand that Andrew is now in the process of embarking on what I hope will be a long and enjoyable retirement. Before he does so, I wanted to place on record my sincere thanks, and those of my children, who now benefit from the security of a robust Child Arrangements Order.”

“Going through the process of applying for a child court order was something I dreaded. It was emotionally challenging and it felt overwhelming at times, but having the right solicitor made all the difference. I’m incredibly grateful for the professional yet compassionate support I received throughout. From the very beginning, my solicitor made things feel manageable. They took the time to explain each step of the process in a way that was clear and easy to understand, which helped reduce my anxiety. I never felt rushed or dismissed, instead, I felt heard, respected, and supported. What really stood out to me was how efficient and reliable they were. Everything was handled in good time, and communication was always prompt and helpful. Even when I had questions or felt unsure, they were patient and responsive. Their professionalism gave me a sense of calm during what was, at times, a very emotional journey. Looking back, I’m so glad I had their guidance through this process. Not only did the job get done, they also made it feel less daunting. I can wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone needing support with family law. They helped me find some peace during one of the most difficult times of my life.”
