This area covers how employers organise and offer regular, predictable working hours and patterns within employment contracts, including fixed shifts, rosters, and the rights and limits around changes to hours. A solicitor practising in this area drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts and policies that set or adjust working patterns, advises on statutory entitlements, and helps resolve disputes when expectations about hours, overtime or rest breaks are at issue. The work is shaped by statutes such as the Employment Rights Act, the Working Time Regulations and the flexible-working framework, and by guidance from bodies like ACAS.

“Having to deal with the employment matter I had was very stressful and damaging to my mental and physical health. So I am happy to say I had a really smooth and supportive experience when put in touch with Fiona Bruce & Co LLP, specifically Tim Grainger and his Secretary Rachal Ward. A friend recommended me Tim's services after they had Tim support them with their own employment case. I asked for contact details and reached out. It wasn't long before Tim got back to me and we started chatting. He was really approachable, friendly and made me feel I could talk to him and discuss my matter without feeling against a countdown or timed meter; this was especially appreciated due to my neurodivergent traits. At the time, I wasn't in immediate need for Tim to take action, so the fact I could build a rapport, update him and ask for small bits of advice throughout my case was really assuring and reduced stress. When I did need Tim's services a few months later - he was honest, clear and timely to provide me good advice and use his legal knowledge to break down concerns and confusion I had while also fighting my corner to get me the best deal I could to my case. Long story short, Tim was able to help me alongside my union put my employer into checkmate and got me a good settlement where all the admin and documentation was easy to access and come in timely manner thanks to Rachel. I work in the video games space that sadly sees not the best treatment for workers, so I am happy to recommend services based on my experience :)”

What Predictable Working Patterns clients highlight
“Having chosen to accept voluntary redundancy, the settlement agreement stated I needed to take legal advice. George was amazing and found a swathe of inaccuracies that I would never have spotted, the main one being that my settlement figure was below what I was entitled to. George made the document make sense and explained all the clauses and how they were there to protect me. My employer was expecting me to just sign the document but George made sure the document was accurate in all areas to protect my rights. Would highly recommend George who was so helpful and who ensured the document worked for me and I understood each section.”

“Working with Victoria was excellent. She got up to speed with my case very quickly and summarised the position clearly and concisely pointing out some contradictions and missing clauses from the initial draft agreement. Vicky not only provided good advice but was also prepared to listen to my suggestions and support these in the negotiations. Overall I'm really happy with the service and the outcome and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Vicky and BBS Law to friends and colleagues. ”
