A Prohibitive Steps Order (PSO) is a court order used in family proceedings to stop a parent or guardian from taking a specific step, such as removing a child from the country or altering their residence, while a case is being decided. A solicitor drafts and helps clerk the application under the Family Procedure Rules and the Children Act 1989, gathers evidence, coordinates with the court, serves papers, and represents the client in hearings to obtain or oppose the PSO. Proceedings hinge on timely, protective intervention to safeguard a child’s welfare or a party’s rights.
