Anti-avoidance work on Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) in England covers identifying schemes intended to reduce SDLT on property transactions, advising on compliant, tax-advantaged structures, and challenging or reforming arrangements with HM Revenue & Customs. A solicitor reviews transaction documents, drafts or revises dispositions and related declarations, and negotiates reliefs and exemptions where legitimately available. It often hinges on the specifics of the asset, the parties, and the proposed sequence of transfers.

Harris Cuffaro & Nichols were great! They were recommended to me by Rutland Financial Ltd. Emma Marchant & her team were very professional. We had a bumpy road but they were clear and explained everything we needed to know or did not fully understand with continuous direct communication. I would definitely use Harris Cuffaro & Nichols again if need be. Also saved me 2.5k on stamp duty with their fantastic advice!

Katrina Greenwell

Tagged solicitor Katrina Greenwell

Following changes to IHT legislation, I consulted Katrina on the best way to deal with a property I have owned for over 25 years. It has never been let or used commercially and is, in effect a "second home". It is abroad. Katrina quickly sorted out the best solution, including putting it into joint names with my wife first, to avoid any "advance IHT" charges that might have arisen . At a quoted fee estimate at the outset, everything was completed in a most efficient manner. I would wholeheartedly recommend Katrina to anyone.
