Over the past 45 years the firm has grown from a one man band to what is now a large regional law firm employing over 230 staff across 17 offices throughout Yorkshire. We offer the broadest suite of legal services in the region and are very much embedded in the communities in which we have offices. Whilst some of the growth has been facilitated through acquiring other smaller firms, most has been organic as a consequence of clients recommending us or returning for additional services.

Our experience with Ison Harrison Solicitors, specifically with John Burnett, has been extremely disappointing. In July 2025, the Leeds office transferred our litigation case to John Burnett. We did not approach him ourselves; he was introduced to us by the Leeds office. Since then, we have paid nearly £3,000 in fees, yet we feel that no real progress has been made on the case. What has been most frustrating is the lack of professionalism and communication. Mr Burnett has come across as very arrogant in his manner. At times, it feels less like we are being treated as clients and more like we are being spoken down to. Instead of feeling like valued clients, we often feel like we are dealing with someone who is talking to us as if we were children. Despite the amount we have already paid, Mr Burnett told us that he does not even have the full paperwork for the case. He has never properly assessed the case or explained the merits to us. We have repeatedly asked for a clear evaluation, but we have still not received one. In fact, the only thing he has done so far is write a single letter. We even had to collect that letter ourselves and post it ourselves. The letter itself was so basic that it felt like something we could have written ourselves without paying a solicitor thousands of pounds. Instead of providing a proper case assessment, the conversation quickly moved to requesting around £40,000 for barristers’ fees, without first explaining the merits of the case or giving us a professional opinion on the strength of it. As clients, we believe we have a very strong case, yet we have still not received a proper evaluation. Overall, we feel that we have paid a substantial amount of money without receiving the level of service, transparency, or professionalism we expected. Based on our experience, we would strongly advise others to be very cautious before instructing Ison Harrison Solicitors. Once they take on your case and your payment, it can feel like you are stuck without clear progress, answers, or support. This has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience for us.

Called this law firm for a quotation on a matter and apparently first thing they asked me on the phone is how much I make, because this would decide whether they would proceed with my matter or not haha I am fully aware that I don’t make lots of money, but you don’t need to shame/humiliate me for that thanks. Also I have enough savings, thank you, if I needed to use in order to pay for your fees. This was by far the most humiliating moment of my life.

I have just used Ison Harrison for a settlement agreement . I received excellent service from start to finish. I would not hesitate to use them again as I had no experience in using a solicitor before and found everyone I had correspondence with to be professional but also helped me to understand what exactly was happening throughout.

Ison Harrison Solicitors, the worlds luckiest Solicitors. The reason they are so lucky is that a number of years ago someone made a brilliant decision. That decision was to employ Sonia Hussain. Probably the the worlds greatest employee, she is BRIGHT, SMART, INTELLIGENT, second to none INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE, she has a skill that people think they have but don't and Sonia has it in abundance, the skill, is ENGAGEMENT. She talks to Muppets like me in a language that I can understand, she has endless patience with Muppets like me who don't understand the first, second and third time, when I would be pulling my hair out, she is calm and professional and keeping it simple. If you are buying or selling a house, I would use Ison Harrison but...... I would insist, the person handling my business would be the BRILLIANT, CHARMING, BRIGHT, CLEVER, SMART, INTELLIGENT Sonia Hussain. To sum it up in one word, SUPERSTAR. Also a mention to Ellie-Louise, also smart, bright, helpful and intelligent. Also a shout out to Oliver grafting away in the background

Good guidance
Lorna was quietly confident but clearly in control as she kept us informed during the process of selling our house. At one point we had an issue involving indemnity insurance which we thought could stall proceedings but Lorna dealt with it quickly while putting us at ease. The entire process took a little more than 8 weeks which was a lot faster than we expected too!
