Freehold Purchase

I would highly recommend Trethowans and Katie Bickerstaff, Senior Associate, based on my recent purchase of a freehold flat. The conveyancing was not always straightforward and Katie was extremely thorough and knowledgeable in advising me on the challenges that arose. I felt in very safe hands, which was important to me as a client. I would not hesitate to instruct Katie and the firm again.

Mark Daniels was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, efficient and friendly throughout our recent house sale and purchase. He & Jennifer kept us up to date regularly and responded very quickly to solve problems as soon as they arose. Mark is a very safe pair of hands and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Thank you!

Extraordinaire!!

James Braund was such a pleasure to deal with. I couldn't have found a better representative. Not once, did I feel like just a client, he kept me informed at all times and ensured that he explained every jargon in an efficient and professional way. I never felt cold or left out, he acted with so much integrity and honesty with such a class of compassion to what I was going through. I love the fact that I had direct contact with him and always received quick responses whenever I communicated, he would even selflessly respond when he was away on his holiday. First class display of not just the legal knowledge but also affability at its best. I highly recommend Trethowans (Poole)

Joanne Mitchell Resolute, Reassuring, Resilient and Reliable

Trethowans in Salisbury has been my solicitor of choice for conveyancing and other legal matters over the past 30 year, therefore I was a little concerned when, as a result of the covid 19 pandemic, I was allocated Joanne Mitchell based at Trethowans Poole office to handle my recent residential conveyancing.
I need not have worried as throughout a protracted sale and purchase over a 3 month period including the late withdrawal of a prospective buyer and an unrealistic exchange and completion date demanded by our sellers ( a large building development company) Joanne Mitchell remained calm yet resilient in answering numerous and unexpected questions from both the buyer and seller.
Joanne was also determined and resolute in looking after my best interests whilst navigating through various issues ,some of which were raised very late in the conveyancing process.
At times when it was difficult to see a solution Joanne was reassuring and her "scouse" sense of humour helped calm my frayed nerves.
A very reliable pair of hands, Joanne exhibited the 4R's at all times.
I would certainly recommend Joanne for any conveyancing services.

Leasehold conveyancing.

I have just completed on the sale of a leasehold flat and the Conveyancing was dealt with by Trethowans LLP. Joanne Mitchell provided a first class service. She efficiently organised a Deed of Variation to ensure our sale went through as swiftly as possible for all, especially as we were not only dealing with the buyers solicitors but the freeholders as well. Email correspondence/responses were sent in a timely manner and I was regularly updated on the progress. I would recommend Joanne Mitchell at Trethowans for your conveyancing needs.

First time buyer conveyancing

I can’t praise Trethowans LLP enough for the service we received earlier this year when buying our first property. Joanne Mitchell made the process very easy for us under very difficult circumstances due to the national lockdown. Our offer was accepted in February and we completed ten weeks later in April. Any questions we had were always answered very promptly and Joanne went over and above by delivering her report and documents for signing to my place of work. I would and have recommended Trethowans to anyone needing conveyancing services. Based on my experience, my Manager at work used Trethowans when she purchased a garage during the summer.

Not a good company, very insulting

Trethowans started out well with our solicitor being Peter Hawker. He was very good and handled our work well, he did not keep in contact and we had to call most times, but that's somewhat expected from all solicitors. He was friendly and nice to work with, it definitely felt like he was on our side.

It all changed when his manager, and a Partner of the company, Mark Daniels took over the case when he was on holiday. He forwarded an email to me which he sent to the sellers solicitors calling me 'pushy and naive'. We put in a formal complaint and their reply was that he was under some stress and it was solicitor jargon to get the deal complete. I'm pretty sure 'pushy' and 'naive' are not jargon, and I understood it perfectly. He also continued to say they may have to look at increasing our charges, as it was extra work (not by us we might add, but by the other side of the purchase). Luckily when Peter returned he explained he was never planning on charging us more as non of the issues we have had from the purchase has been our fault.

As we were purchasing into a shared ownership, this disrespect could have affected our ongoing relationship with the company we were purchasing it off of, luckily it didn't, but we didn't know how that could have affected it. In the end the complaints department offered us an apology and which we acknowleded, as we wanted nothing more from them other than to finish this process and we felt that Trethowans obviously thought nothing of insulting their clients.

We sometimes had forms and letters with spelling mistakes, it doesn't take much to read through your work and make sure it is correct.

I believe Peter has now left this organisation. We know this as we have been waiting since we completed in July for the Land Registry to come through, with only radio silence on their end. So we have contacted them a few times and spoken to Joanne, who seems helpful enough.

Overall if you want a company that is happy to insult you to your face, then Trethowan is perfect. But other than that they can be hit or miss as to whether you get a good solicitor or not.

Moving house

They are not the cheapest, but I believe you get what you pay for and when it comes to buying and selling your property you need 100% confidence in your solicitor.
We were fortunate to have Joanne looking after our sale and purchase. With the support of her secretary we felt reassured at all stages of the process, this is the second time we have used them and would recommend them

Outstanding service

Having dealt with various solicors in our time, we've experienced our fair share of strife and frustration of typical solicitor firms. Trethowans are definitely not your typical firm- they're rare gem in being so incredible! Our solicitor went above and beyond her call of duty to secure our new home. She was very thorough, helpful and got everything done on time, despite the uphill battles from the vendors side that we thought we'd never get through. She was also so easy to talk to and explain how it was progressing (without all the legal jargon I can never understand). I've never come across such a meticulous yet approachable firm like this before, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an amazingly efficient solicitor.
