I found Shumyla during one of the hardest times of my life, fighting in court for my child. Having her by my side has meant so much to me. She works until late and somehow is there again early in the morning, I honestly don’t know how she does it. She keeps me updated, remembers the details and always makes time to give me advice. But what I appreciate most is how human she is. I try to be strong, but I’m not strong all the time. Sometimes I cry, sometimes I feel lost, and she listens with patience and kindness. At such a difficult time, that means more than people realise. I would choose her and her team again without hesitation. Baris is also an incredible lawyer, and I’m so grateful to have them both beside me. Thank you, Shumyla, for your hard work, your care and for being there when I’ve needed you most. We cannot thank Daniel Maiden at Cartwright King solicitors enough for helping us secure a special guardianship order for our grandchildren, there was so many times I was worried about the outcome but Dan was amazing, he has a very down to earth approach & always managed to keep us calm throughout the entire process, he explained everything in a way I could understand & didn’t baffle us with legal jargon, he kept me updated & was always available when I had any questions (which was a lot), he was always patient and caring & supported us through a very stressful time. With Judy Johnson’s help, we achieved an outcome that had seemed almost impossible. Judy was highly recommended to us as a children’s lawyer. She supported us in caring for a deeply troubled teenager. When we found ourselves in conflict with a local authority and social workers whom we believed had failed both the young person and us. Those concerns ultimately came before the family courts. In our experience, good hearted carers of foster placements, special guardian arrangements, and similar settings can be unfairly discredited when local authorities seek to avoid responsibility and shift blame. Judy Johnson is an outstanding lawyer who stood by us throughout six gruelling months in which we felt relentlessly vilified. We trusted her judgment at every stage, even as two elderly people facing circumstances we could scarcely have imagined. Judy guided us through every accusation and challenge, including what we regarded as malicious falsehoods intended to damage our reputation. We thought we had already experienced everything life could throw at us, but we were wrong. With Judy’s support, we withstood the local authorities attempt to avoid responsibility for what we believe was gross neglect. We wish more lawyers like Judy were available to help grandparents like us, who feel failed by the judicial system and confronted by local authorities whose conduct, in our experience, knows no bounds. In our experience, departments close ranks—-from social workers—-school staff—while serious complaints about dishonesty and misconduct go unaddressed. Judy Johnson, we can never thank you enough for helping us escape the appalling abuse we endured and for securing yesterday’s decisive victory.
