This area covers the most serious road traffic offences in England and Wales, such as dangerous driving, causing death by dangerous driving, and drink or drug driving with severe penalties. A solicitor practising here handles complex cases in the Crown Court and magistrates’ courts, reviews evidence, instructs experts, negotiates with the CPS, drafts plea offers, and represents the client at trial, sentencing hearings, or appeals. The work is shaped by statutory thresholds, cross-examining witnesses, and potential consequences for public safety.
Where a solicitor protects your position
The actions of a solicitor in serious motoring cases focus on the correct interpretation of the Road Traffic Act and related offences, coordinating expert traffic and medical evidence, and challenging procedural irregularities. They advise on bail, disclosure issues, and potential defences, and protect the client’s position through careful handling of the trial process, submission of evidence, and representation in sentencing proceedings, where outcomes can be life-changing.
