This area covers issues facing university students in England, such as academic appeals, housing matters linked to student tenancies, and claims arising from university procedures or discrimination. A solicitor helps with drafting and submitting academic appeals, negotiating with universities or accommodation providers, reviewing contracts for student accommodation, and pursuing complaints under equality, consumer or data protection laws when a student feels misled or treated unfairly.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
A solicitor handles the detailed steps of academic appeal processes, reviews university regulations and housing contracts, advises on discrimination or harassment claims under the Equality Act, and coordinates responses to complaints with bodies like the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education. They ensure deadlines are met, gather evidence, and communicate with university departments and, if needed, regulatory bodies.
