Concessions and discretionary applications cover immigration cases where the Home Office or UK Visas and Immigration uses discretion to grant a visa, permit or status despite not meeting the standard criteria. A solicitor in this area helps clients prepare submissions that explain why a concession should apply, gathers supporting evidence, drafts representations, and can advocate at any stage of the process. The work often hinges on policy concessions, humanitarian considerations, or exceptional circumstances that justify relief beyond the normal rules.

Why this work is usually handled by a solicitor

A solicitor explains the risks of refusal, highlights applicable protections, and coordinates with the Home Office to present a compelling case under discretionary powers, including representations, supplementary evidence, and policy-based arguments. They rely on professional safeguards, regulatory accountability, and rights of audience to engage with decisions and, if needed, pursue alternative routes or remedies.
