Leave Outside the Rules (LOTR) covers applications for permission to stay where the normal Immigration Rules do not apply, typically due to exceptional circumstances. A solicitor explains the non-standard grounds, identifies compelling evidence, and prepares representations to UK Visas and Immigration. They gather and structure supporting documents, draft submissions outlining why the applicant should be granted leave outside the rules, and liaise with Home Office caseworkers and any relevant hearings. The work hinges on timely, well-evidenced arguments that justify departing from standard policy.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
LOTR submissions hinge on identifying exceptional circumstances, assembling medical, financial or family evidence, and drafting precise legal submissions to UK Visas and Immigration. The solicitor coordinates disclosures, addresses Home Office requests, and may handle any associated hearings or appeals, all while navigating non-standard deadlines and policy considerations specific to leaving the Rules.
