This work area covers obtaining and maintaining a sponsor licence for employing non‑UK workers under the UK immigration system, including the rights and duties of a sponsoring employer. A solicitor handles the end‑to‑end process of applying for registration as a sponsor, keeps sponsor documentation up to date, and ensures ongoing compliance with Home Office requirements. They draft and implement monitoring policies, prepare and lodge certificates of sponsorship, and manage audits, refusals, and reporting duties on the sponsor’s behalf.

What a solicitor handles in these matters

The solicitor manages the sponsor duties, including maintaining records, reporting changes to the Home Office, and responding to compliance checks. They handle the design and delivery of apprentice or skilled worker sponsorship schemes, ensure role and salary criteria meet the limit, and coordinate with HR, payroll and external advisors to manage ongoing duties and potential sanctions.
