    "Not my problem"

    Some 10 years ago my husband and I wrote our Wills and LPAs and deposited them with the Dorking office of Downs Solicitors. We were provided with great personal service by a patrician solicitor who retired soon afterward. When I needed to contact Down Solicitors recently to retrieve my late husband's Will I was "served" by an assistant solicitor, Mrs. Joanna Pashley. Mrs. Pashley communicated with me mainly through her personal assistants who were quick to send me forms to fill out without trying to understand first what I actually needed. I spent a month trying to complete an "Estate Questionnaire" just to find out that Downs required another form to be filled out to release the Will. Cue filling out a Document Release form, with more documents and scans attached. Many of my questions were answered along the lines of "We don't do that" never bothering to explain nor trying to be at least a little bit helpful given the circumstances (bereavement). The experience was made even more cumbersome by the varying working schedules of Mrs. Pashley and her PAs ("I don't work on Mondays"; "I only come to the office on Tuesdays" etc.). The overall impression was one of a complete lack of customer service and a "not my problem" attitude... where is the old Downs culture.

    Selling my late father's house was made so much easier by Sarah and Claire at the residential department of Downs. They were highly professional, diligent, quick to respond, pro-active and thorough throughout, and at the same time friendly, easy to talk to, understanding and a pleasure to do business with.       I cannot recommend Bill Rashbrook at Downs Solicitors highly enough. Our sale involved an extremely complex issue with our freeholder that prevented us from exchanging contracts. My original solicitors were unable to deal with the complexities of amending the lease, and it looked as though the sale might not be able to proceed. Bill took ownership of the matter from the outset and gave us complete confidence that it could be resolved. No problem was ever too big, and his professionalism, knowledge, and determination were outstanding throughout. Behind the scenes, Bill worked tirelessly, coordinating with the freeholder, the freeholder's solicitors, my buyers' solicitors, my onward purchase solicitors, and the estate agents involved in both transactions. He kept everything moving forward, resolved issues as they arose, and ultimately achieved what others had been unable to do. Without Bill's expertise and persistence, I genuinely don't believe our sale and purchase would have completed. He went above and beyond at every stage, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he did.

      I engaged Downs Solicitors to provide a conveyancing service for my mothers house. Bronwyn Olivier and Liz Rose provided a very good service and the transaction was completed very smoothly. I had a few problems getting all the documents sent by e mail however I was able to deliver them directly to the office where the reception team were very friendly and even made me a cup of tea whilst they processed the documents.
