Big Data Challenges covers helping organisations harness large data assets while meeting UK data protection rules and cybersecurity duties. A solicitor in this area drafts and negotiates data processing and data sharing agreements, conducts data mapping and privacy impact assessments, and advises on cross‑border transfers and vendor risk. They oversee incident response planning, respond to data breach notifications, and represent clients in regulatory inquiries or disputes arising from data use, data governance or security failures.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
The work hinges on UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, including DPIAs, data subject rights, breach notification and security requirements. A solicitor coordinates governance frameworks, audits compliance programs, and interfaces with regulators and partners to manage liability, data flow, and contract terms when handling personal data at scale.
