This invitation to review is far too late ! The sale was completed in October 2024 . It was a gruelling experience then and having eventually got over it , what happens in 2026 ? We are offered a review! 1. The sale of our flat took far too long. Battens repeatedly blamed the buyers solicitors and other factors for the delays . 2. Battens sent money from our retention account without informing us to pay for a retrospective claim for a deficit that had purportedly occurred in the year 2022/23. No evidence was ever produced re the details of that deficit. The annual accounts ( Woodley and Associates) for that year had been approved . Our retention amounts held by Battens were to cover the years 2023/4 and 2024/5. I did not receive a satisfactory explanation when I repeatedly asked why our retention was being used to cover the wrong year . 3. We were given a deadline date for the return of our two retentions which overran by 2 or 3 weeks. When I asked why the deadline was ignored , I was told it was normal to overrun ! I raised this with Battens and was asked would I like to raise a complaint . But if I did , we would be charged for it!!! We gave up -ignorant little people against the mighty legal system was how we felt! 4. The final invoice we were charged by Battens was 72% higher than the quotation we had been given - admittedly at a considerably earlier date. 5. We had used Battens approximately four years earlier to purchase the property. A good experience led by Jenny Cottrell.

Excellent communication addressing our concerns and good advice.

Unfortunately, we felt we received very little value for the money spent. I put considerable time into setting out our case clearly and factually, point by point, in an effort to save time and costs and to ensure accuracy. However, this work was changed and errors were introduced. Correcting these issues became an ongoing and frustrating process, as we repeatedly had to ensure the facts were accurate. We did question the billing and received a small discount, but overall we were unhappy with the cost compared to what was ultimately produced, and I genuinely feel the outcome would have been the same had I responded myself.

I have used Battens as my solicitors for over 25 years and have always found them to be professional and knowledgeable. They always convey a helpful and professionally sociable manner.

Unfortunately, we have been really disappointed with the service we have received from Battens. We started a legal process back in August that has only now concluded and our final invoice was much higher than our initial quote. Our experience with this firm has highlighted serious inefficiency and a lack of transparency from the solicitor. Therefore, sadly we would not recommend.
