Degree classification appeals cover challenges to a university or higher education provider’s final mark or class of degree. A solicitor helps a student review the assessment, identify procedural or evidential issues, and prepare grounds for appeal. They may draft the appeal or complaint, gather coursework, exam scripts, and mitigating circumstances, liaise with the university’s assessment board, and advise on options if the initial appeal fails, including re-sits or potential Judicial Review where lawful grounds exist.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
The solicitor handles the specific assessment requirements, grounds for challenge, and the procedural steps within university procedures, including timetables, missives, and potential referrals to external bodies such as the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for England (OIA). They work with the student to compile relevant evidence, draft submissions, and coordinate any subsequent review processes, ensuring compliance with university policies and consumer protection rules.
