Cybersecurity Disclosure covers advising on the disclosure of cyber incidents and data breaches under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. A solicitor helps identify when disclosure is legally required, draft and serve breach notices to affected individuals, report to the Information Commissioner’s Office, and coordinate with regulators, insurers and third parties. They review incident timelines, preserve evidence, advise on containment, and support communications with clients and partners. They also review data processing agreements and risk assessments to reduce legal exposure.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
This area involves applying regime requirements to complex cyber incidents, determining triggers for notification, and navigating regulator inquiries. The solicitor handles documentation, timelines, and cross‑border data transfer considerations, supports clients in remediation planning, and reviews contracts and security commitments to map responsibilities and reduce liability.
