Online Safety covers how information tech platforms regulate content, protect users, and respond to risks online. In England, solicitors in this area help clients navigate duties under UK-wide regimes controlling harmful content, platform obligations, and data protection intertwined with online activities. They draft and negotiate terms with platforms, review safety policies, and advise on regulatory investigations into breaches of content standards or data security.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
They handle drafting and reviewing platform terms, safety policies, and community guidelines; advise on content moderation practices; prepare ready-to-respond incident reports; coordinate with regulators such as the Information Commissioner’s Office and, where applicable, the Online Safety Regulator under UK legislation; assist with data protection implications of platform actions; liaise with clients on risk management, incident notification, and remediation steps.
