Independent Review Panel Hearings deal with challenging school decisions on exclusions and related disciplinary actions. A solicitor in this area helps families prepare the evidence, submits grounds of appeal, and may represent the pupil at the panel, presenting submissions and questioning witnesses. The panel reviews whether the exclusion or disciplinary measure was lawful, reasonable, and fair, and may substitute a different outcome. These hearings are time‑sensitive and hinge on statutory guidance and school policies, with outcomes affecting a pupil’s education path.
Exclusion decisions can interrupt a pupil’s schooling and have long‑term consequences for education, attendance, and future opportunities. The solicitor’s role centers on ensuring procedures were properly followed, evidence is complete, and the panel’s decision rests on clearly documented grounds, with the potential to influence whether a pupil returns to school or a different educational arrangement is pursued.
