A couple of years ago I received a recommendation from a friend to use Paul Lancaster from Law Blacks Solicitors for a major personal/legal matter. From the outset, notwithstanding the difficulty of the case emotionally, Law Blacks (notably Solicitor Paul Lancaster), managed and delivered an outstanding service. What I liked is that Paul ‘knew his onions’, understood the stages and likelihood of each stage, was able to offer options and recommendations all with meticulous planning and detail. In addition, often with legal cases, the client can be emotional and demanding but Paul always remained calm under significant pressure whilst knowing when to push harder. I am writing this because albeit it has been a couple of years, I emailed Paul today about writing a will. He responded within 30mins and set me up with the ‘Will’ representative for a call tomorrow. Reliability is everything!. Well done Paul, really impressed with your service delivery.

I have used Blacks solicitors on several occasions because they are friendly, very professional, very thorough, & in my experience have always provided an excellent service. Most importantly, you are always able to contact & speak to the solicitor thats dealing with your affairs, especially solicitor Mr Will Ashton, who would always go out of his way to please his clients.

They quoted the cost before the engagement and they charged exactly the amount. They were professional and kept their word and their standard and communication was excellent.

Blacks Solicitors had been recommended to me and the recommendation was very well deserved. We've been consistently impressed with the work of Dawn Atkinson in handling what felt like a complicated conveyancing process that involved a myriad of issues with probate, bridging finance, aborted sales, unusual style of housing... just about every hurdle that can be imagined! Dawn was kind, supportive, efficient, prompt with replies and just got the job done! Trust Blacks Leeds at your peril!! Totally not trust worthy in my own experience. Left items with them that went missing. DO not trust with your personal items where wills are concerned!

USELESS, LYING, CLIENT MILKERS I note that the vast majority of these reviews are from conveyancing clients. My experience of their probate work is dramatically different. I have engaged with well over100 solicitors for over 35 years, principally in criminal cases but also in property management, conveyancing and also in litigation. I have learnt two things over these many years; firstly, never trust a lawyer, even (possibly especially) your own and secondly, they have only one master and that is money. Lawyers do not manufacture anything, they only make money by milking their clients. In my opinion Blacks are no different, lurking at the lower end of the scale and I found them to be a complete waste of time and money. I engaged them in a probate matter due to their high ratings (although these are almost entirely related to conveyancing work), and secondly that they claimed to do contested probate. After paying >£500 for one of their part-time Associate Solicitors to write two letters (essentially one letter to two recipients) I was dropped down their internal food chain to a trainee solicitor. She asked for documents I'd already sent (and received), claimed to have sent multiple emails to me over the Christmas period that never arrived and they were unable (or unwilling) to provide any proof of sending/delivery, on repeated request. This is something most of us mere mortals can do with ease, yet alone a business that bills for such correspondence. The trainee solicitor outlined her fees and wrote; “Please note that costs are always discharged from the estate so of course there is nothing for you to physically pay.” A short time later, and without progressing the matter any further, she asked me to pay £500 ‘on account’ (client milking). When I sought clarification of this apparent discrepancy, proof of sent emails, and clear answers to my questions, Blacks terminated my retainer stating that I had refused to pay. Seemingly even when Black’s Solicitors puts a statement in writing it still cannot be relied upon. In short, after more than 6 weeks I was unable to get a straight answer from them to a straightforward question (useless). Instead, I was simply quoted legal statements that I could have asked Siri for or a search on Google. SAVE TIME & MONEY - GO ELSEWHERE

Blacks Solicitors were really great in assisting me to sell my late sister’s bungalow. Amy was very helpful and professional, happy to explain parts of the contracts I was unfamiliar with and the sale went through smoothly. I would recommend.
