Avoid at all costs!

Run for the hills from this firm! Imagine paying £400 an hour for a solicitor who ignores your emails, ignores your calls, doesn’t update you, ignores police’s emails and provides you with advice that turns out to be detrimental? That is what you get with Nick Jennaway. I can honestly say it is the biggest regret of my life hiring Bindmans and I’ve been advised something at the firm has happened in the past year that all their good solicitors have chosen to leave and they’ve been replaced with non experienced solicitors yet they somehow charge the same high prices as when they had good solicitors. I do not recommend this firm and I do not believe they are professional or credible law firm.

Crime/ Criminal Defence

Not worthy of being called a Tier 1 Firm

I would strongly advise anyone to think twice before using Bindmans LLP’s crime department. We genuinely believed we were in capable hands, but the experience has been extremely disappointing and distressing. There has been absolutely no duty of care shown towards a vulnerable adult. Between October and June, we were charged almost £20,000 — with over £14,000 of that between January and June alone — yet much of the promised work was never completed. We were even billed for endless emails chasing updates, asking questions, and giving instructions that were mostly ignored. We were left in a worse position than when we started and have now had to hire a new firm to fix the damage and continue the work that Bindmans should have handled properly. When we raised our concerns with Katie Wheatley, the partner supposedly overseeing the case, she didn’t even have the courtesy to respond or return calls. Instead, the case was left with Nicholas Jennaway, whose approach was completely disengaged and careless. He showed little understanding of the matter or effort to familiarise himself with the details when it was transferred to him. We’ve asked for a refund given the poor service and lack of progress, but Bindmans continue to justify their charges. We are now pursuing the matter through the Legal Ombudsman and SRA. In my opinion, Bindmans LLP do not deserve their reputation as a Tier 1 firm. The service we received was unprofessional and showed a complete lack of care or accountability.

Family Law

Traumatizing experience with family law team and complaints partner

I was their client for the relocation case which I lost and then made the fatal mistake to keep them for my financial proceedings case. They were an absolute disaster. No strategy on my case, they made fatal mistakes and caused me so much stress that I still get anxious when I think about it. After the FDR hearing I realised how poorly my case was going, as what I was told in the beginning of my case ended up being far from the truth, and I complained. They never followed their complaints policy as per their website but they only announced to me out of the blue that they will stop representing me, one week before a court hearing. I was traumatized, so shocked, as I thought that they were working on my statement in that time. They also told me that I had to file my questionnaires to the other side on the same email as I did not adhere to the court’s deadline, set in the FDR hearing. Please also note that during that hearing I paid for a partner and a trainee solicitor to be in the court room to provide support. This was a very stressful in person all day hearing! They never communicated to me the next steps nor the court order as they used to do, so I never received in writing the deadline dates and next hearing dates. When I wrote to the complaints partner about these two incidents, along with many others, their response was that they apologise for not letting me know sooner that they stopped working on my case two weeks earlier from the date they announced to terminate the retainer. For the FDR hearing failure to communicate the order and next steps to me from the court they simply said that I was in the court room and for this reason I should have taken notes of those dates. I do not wish to anyone to have to go through legal proceedings with a firm that has no respect nor cares about their clients, they simply wanted their legal fees and when they stopped getting them as I had an Legal services order, they decided to drop the case.

Family Law

Incompetent at best

We were, very unfortunately, allocated solicitors from this company by the Official Solicitor in a Court of Protection case. Two solicitors from Bindmans were allocated to act for my father as his "litigation friend" between March and June 2023. For this role, in just over 3 months and with very little work, they charged my father over £20,000. They showed failures of even basic professionalism: 1. They did not even spell the name of my father, their client, correctly, even in Court documents; 2. They failed to get basic facts about their client correct in a COP witness statement, and even had to resubmit a witness statement to the Court due to errors; 3. On visiting my father the Bindman's solicitor did not even manage to observe the items in his room accurately - one of the only tasks she was asked to undertake in this visit; 4. They submitted court documents late, and were admonished by the judge; 5. They failed to create a detailed end of life visiting plan for my father - and were again admonished by the judge in a final hearing. I would not employ these lawyers and am shocked that they are allocated by the Official Solicitor to act for vulnerable adults. I would rate them with a 0 if possible.
