May I very highly recommend Joanna Allen. After years of using many other solicitors Joanna stands out above all the rest. The work load she has taken on for me in the last 18 months whilst I build my property portfolio is incredible. Joanna always answer my emails extremely promptly and deals with all my deadlines well within the time limit. Her expertise, work ethic, communication, help and guidance is always second to none. After a bit of a shakey start ( not Leathes Priors making), Stephen Wilson and his team came to the fore and their attention to detail and communication with us was exemplary. The attention to detail was outstanding and we were very pleased that he and his team delivered on the timescales to exchange and eventually completion. Extremely disappointing experience. We instructed Leathes Prior in connection with a significant commercial lease and nursery development. We subsequently found ourselves exposed to substantial costs associated with the condition of the property. To be clear, my criticism is not that a solicitor should have discovered structural defects. My concern is that we entered into a full repairing lease without a Schedule of Condition and I do not believe the potentially significant financial consequences of taking on responsibility for pre-existing disrepair were explained to us clearly enough before we committed. I raised these concerns formally with the firm and received their final complaint response rejecting the complaint. Having reviewed that response and the underlying correspondence, I remain deeply dissatisfied. For a transaction involving a substantial investment and a long-term lease, I expected advice that clearly translated the legal wording into the commercial and financial risks we were actually assuming. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I could not recommend Leathes Prior for this type of transaction.
