Great solicitor

I have a had a complicated case from day one with my divorce on both the financial and children side. I still have some ongoing bits that need to deal with but having Jake Mitchell by my side do advice makes things a lot easier to deal with. I have been able to rely on his advice and how much I use Jake for bits it makes the cost of it so much more manageable. Also the emotional stress of divorce is the main reason I continue to use Jake as my solicitor. He has always had such empathy and been able to keep me grounded when needed. You can never guarantee how these things go but having someone like Jake by your side makes the whole process much more manageable. He has always gone over and above when needed and to me that’s what makes his service so exceptional. Stuart

Lack of transparency and cost control across employment and tax matters

I instructed Freeths in 2025 in relation to an employment matter, alongside separate family proceedings. During this period, a further tax matter was opened internally by the firm. The employment matter was initially scoped with an estimate of £3,030 + VAT. The final fees exceeded £5,400 + VAT. This increase was not accompanied by a clearly documented revision of scope or updated estimate. A portion of the work appeared to arise from interaction with the family matter, including confidentiality and disclosure issues. A separate tax file was subsequently opened in relation to CGT calculations. No engagement letter or client contract was issued for this file, which was later acknowledged by the firm as an error. While the invoice (dated 30 September 2025) was written off, the work had already been undertaken within the context of ongoing proceedings and contributed to overall complexity and time spent. The handling of the tax matter occurred shortly before a court hearing and coincided with a transition to a new solicitor. This resulted in additional coordination effort and pressure at a critical stage. Across the different matters, there was a consistent lack of clarity around scope, costs, and next steps. Communication was not always timely, and information was often provided piecemeal rather than clearly upfront. I raised multiple complaints in relation to these issues. Despite this, the process has been prolonged, with only one final response issued to date. These were separate matters handled by different teams, yet the same issues arose consistently, suggesting a lack of coordination and transparency rather than an isolated matter. I would not recommend instructing the firm based on this experience. The employment matter has now been referred to the Legal Ombudsman.

Aggressive, rude collections team

I took legal advice and was quoted a fixed fee. We did not complete on the deal and owed Freeths a reduced balance, which was paid. The company then added a CCJ on my wife’s credit file for unpaid debt, as they duplicated the invoices and fees which contradicted the quote given.

A very distressing experience

Freeths were appointed our trustees for a family trust in 1970 and all they have done in that time is charge enormous fees which they cannot justify. I have finally managed to break open the Trust (no help from them) and they have been sitting on money paid to us for months as they faff about doing unnecessary things which just ramps up charges even more. I will make it my life’s work to share my appalling experience with this un.ethical company far and wide. I will be writing a fuller review once they have finally returned our money and I am free to share the full story. Published using a friend's FB account as this site refused to let me post unless I used FB (and I do not have access to my own FB on this computer). @Vernia

Wills, Trusts & Probate

Avoid like the plague!

It took over 7 months to obtain the rightful will. Case should have been closed in October of 2021, however it was dragged on till March of 2022. We were waiting for the last piece of the puzzle, however Mr. Robert Hill has gotten the documents back in October of 2021. I was completely overcharged by him in the amount of £5,000.00. I would not recommend this Law Firm to anyone. Read most of the reviews and agree with them when they say and I quote "Money grabbing people who don't care about those they are looking after"!!!!!
