Description

We’ve all got a story of where we have come from, who we are and what makes us tick. This is ours. Over the past 45 years the firm has grown from a one man band to what is now a large regional law firm employing over 230 staff across 17 offices throughout Yorkshire. We offer the broadest suite of legal services in the region and are very much embedded in the communities in which we have offices. Whilst some of the growth has been facilitated through acquiring other smaller firms, most has been organic as a consequence of clients recommending us or returning for additional services.

Lost in the bushes with professionals

This is a lengthy review, but I encourage anyone considering spending a significant amount of money on legal representation to read it carefully. My name is Dr. Malek Mohsen. I am sharing my personal experience with Jonathan Robson, Amardeep Dhillon, Ervin Shakaj, and Ison Harrison. If anyone would like to discuss my experience before instructing any of these individuals or this firm, I would be happy to provide further information.here is my mobile 0789 4252 909 My case began after a recommendation from my solicitor, who referred me to Ison Harrison, specifically Mr. Jonathan Robson. During our initial discussions, he appeared to understand the matter well and advised that, even in the event of losing, my costs would likely not exceed £16,000. I was also informed that I had a strong case supported by witnesses and documentary evidence. I was told that the matter could take some time to reach court, but I was not prepared for the process to continue for several years while legal costs continued to increase. During the course of the case, communication was often inconsistent, and there were extended periods when I received little or no update regarding progress. At one stage, I was referred to counsel, Mr. Amardeep Dhillon, to assess the merits of the case. Unfortunately, my experience of this consultation was disappointing. Despite being charged approximately £2,000 for a one-hour conference, I felt that important aspects of the case had not been fully understood, and several key facts appeared to be misunderstood. As the case progressed, I identified what I believed were errors in documents prepared for court, including issues relating to wording, figures, and dates. When these concerns were raised, I was advised that further meetings with counsel would be required to amend the documents, resulting in additional costs. I found this particularly frustrating as I believed these issues should have been identified and corrected before the documents were provided to me. Another difficulty was the timing of communications. Important documents, often lengthy and complex, were frequently sent late on Fridays with requests for urgent review and response by Monday. Given the volume and complexity of the material, I found it challenging to provide meaningful feedback within such short timeframes. Subsequently, I was referred to Mr. Ervin Shakaj. My expectation was that this would improve the handling of the case and potentially reduce costs. However, I felt that he did not fully appreciate the strengths of the claim and appeared focused on encouraging settlement rather than pursuing the matter through litigation. Throughout the case, I was frequently encouraged to compromise or abandon the claim, despite my belief that there remained reasonable prospects of success. Communication under Mr. Shakaj's management also presented difficulties. Documents that had previously been provided appeared to be requested again, requiring me to resubmit substantial amounts of information. In addition, I often received emails requiring urgent responses while travelling abroad, making it difficult to manage the case effectively. The most disappointing aspect of the matter was the outcome of settlement negotiations. We initially sought approximately £5,000 from the opposing party, yet ultimately reached a settlement requiring me to pay £35,000, despite the case never proceeding to trial. The opposing party's initial position was reportedly between £42,000 and £48,000, eventually settling at £35,000. Given the substantial legal fees I had already incurred, I found this outcome extremely difficult to accept. Over the course of the matter, I paid approximately £20,000 in legal fees, only to be repeatedly advised to settle and abandon the claim. At no stage did I feel confident that my legal team believed in the merits of the case or intended to pursue it vigorously through the court process. I continue to believe that my case had merit and that the UK court system provides a fair opportunity for disputes to be resolved. My dissatisfaction relates not to the legal system itself, but to my experience with the professionals involved in my representation. This review reflects my personal experience and opinions. Others may have different experiences. However, based on the significant financial and emotional investment involved, I believe potential clients should carefully consider their options and conduct thorough research before making a decision. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

A client

Our experience with Ison Harrison Solicitors, specifically with John Burnett, has been extremely disappointing. In July 2025, the Leeds office transferred our litigation case to John Burnett. We did not approach him ourselves; he was introduced to us by the Leeds office. Since then, we have paid nearly £3,000 in fees, yet we feel that no real progress has been made on the case. What has been most frustrating is the lack of professionalism and communication. Mr Burnett has come across as very arrogant in his manner. At times, it feels less like we are being treated as clients and more like we are being spoken down to. Instead of feeling like valued clients, we often feel like we are dealing with someone who is talking to us as if we were children. Despite the amount we have already paid, Mr Burnett told us that he does not even have the full paperwork for the case. He has never properly assessed the case or explained the merits to us. We have repeatedly asked for a clear evaluation, but we have still not received one. In fact, the only thing he has done so far is write a single letter. We even had to collect that letter ourselves and post it ourselves. The letter itself was so basic that it felt like something we could have written ourselves without paying a solicitor thousands of pounds. Instead of providing a proper case assessment, the conversation quickly moved to requesting around £40,000 for barristers’ fees, without first explaining the merits of the case or giving us a professional opinion on the strength of it. As clients, we believe we have a very strong case, yet we have still not received a proper evaluation. Overall, we feel that we have paid a substantial amount of money without receiving the level of service, transparency, or professionalism we expected. Based on our experience, we would strongly advise others to be very cautious before instructing Ison Harrison Solicitors. Once they take on your case and your payment, it can feel like you are stuck without clear progress, answers, or support. This has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience for us.

Called this law firm for a quotation on a matter and apparently first thing they asked me on the phone is how much I make, because this would decide whether they would proceed with my matter or not haha I am fully aware that I don’t make lots of money, but you don’t need to shame/humiliate me for that thanks. Also I have enough savings, thank you, if I needed to use in order to pay for your fees. This was by far the most humiliating moment of my life.

Will Writing Service

We received fantastic service from start to finish. Both Sarah and Lucy (McDonald) were wonderful and lead us through the will writing process with ease. Sarah provided us with additional information that would also help protect our assets which was very much appreciated. It was all very simple and easy to understand. We will definitely be coming back to Ison Harrison if we have any further legal issues we need help with. We couldn’t have asked for better service. We also appreciated the flexibility they provided by arranging to visit us at home. It made it much easier for me as I struggle with mobility.

Brilliant Service

My mum used these solicitors to take care of probate and making a new will. We dealt with Sarah Zahid, she was compassionate and very thorough. She explained things in simple terms for my elderly mum, which was much appreciated. Thank you for doing a great job Sarah, I would highly recommend this company of solicitors, excellent service!

We had been meaning to arrange our wills for a long time and kept putting it off thinking it would be a complicated process. The team at Ison Harrison (Bingley) were amazing and made everything so easy for us. The communication was excellent. Lucy kept in regular contact and was great when I had to rearrange an appointment due to being hospitalised for a short time. They offered a home visit which made it much more convenient for me during recovery. Sarah was very knowledgeable and provided us with a variety of options in order for us to ensure we will be fully protected. We highly recommend both her and the company. Both Sarah and Lucy made us feel at ease and in safe hands.

We recently used Ghazanfar Iqbal and honestly I was blown away! Worth every penny without going into too much detail he was able to get our case sorted within hours nothing was too much hassle he was even on the phone to me at 10pm to sort everything because I had left it last minute and this still wasn’t any trouble for him most people would of turned me away leaving it so last minute. I couldn’t recommend him enough a genuine kind and patient gentleman a credit to the company! Thank you so much See less
