Gilson Gray LLP

I recently completed on a house, using Gilson Gray as my solicitors. Rachel Jowett was absolutely brilliant helping to push along the process and get a completion date sorted as quickly as possible, especially when faced with delays from the seller.

Gilson Gray could probably work for some people who have a simple conveyancing job of say a new build with a first time buyer. I think you have to realise it's a call centre and most of the people are juniors learning their trade. I lost about 4 weeks waiting for my 'dedicated conveyancer' to return to work and had emails from at least 20 different people in the company about my case. Each time I replied I got the automated response with gives no confidence anyone is owning the issue. I complained but got put through to an answer machine and when I did get a call back from an assistant they just argued with me. Based on this I cannot recommend this company.

The experience we have received so far had been really good. I first enquiry was dealt with in a swift manner and since then we have been impressed with all the communication and help with the purchase of our new home.

I have had an offer accepted and have chosen Douglas from Gilson Gray as my Solicitor. So far Douglas has been very helpful and has answered any questions I may have in a very efficient manner. I have really appreciated his support with the process.

Although we did proceed with Gilson Gray solicitors, Douglas was very helpful in ensuring we fully understood our quote and was on hand to help with anything.

I had a poor experience with Gilson Gray Solicitors (Lincoln) during my property purchase. Communication was consistently unreliable, with unanswered emails and calls, and my case was passed between staff without clear explanation. At the final stage, I was unexpectedly asked to make an additional payment without justification and felt pressured to do so to avoid delaying completion. Instructions around payments and authorisation were inconsistent and confusing, causing unnecessary stress. Overall, the service was disorganised and fell well below expected professional standards.

Recently bought my first property and used this company as my solicitors, mine was Jehnnaie. She was very patient, very quick and efficient communication. I can't speak on the company, but would 100 percent recommend her she helped me from start to finish. I don't know what I'd of done without her.

We sold with Yopa Lincoln and they recommended Gilson Gray. That was a mistake as throughout the process GG were slow, made mistakes that caused delays such as they missed a month where they didn’t pick up our paperwork they were to act on our purchase too. They Didn’t give clear instructions in the conveyancing process and expected us to know everything without informing us. They also repeated steps in the process they’d already done, didn’t act on our matter unless we were really breathing down their necks about it. They ignored the emails. We’d leave them to it, get in touch for progress and find that nothing had been done at all and that they were unaware we’d returned docs etc. Near exchange, They kept repeating on the phone that they were doing final “checks” but when we asked what these checks were, they went on hold for ages, then they confirmed there weren’t any final checks so it was obviously just a lie they say to delay. Conveyancing dragged out for months and we felt in the dark throughout. When we escalated our matter up to the operations managers, they were little use either. Too many clients for their team to handle well, not enough actual solicitors in the place. They only exchanged the day before completion because I really insisted it should happen and had an awkward conversation with Alisha on the phone where she was so defensive, she shouted at me, threatened to hang up because I was “demanding exchange”, sarcastically sweetly offered to move completion from tomorrow for me (knowing I didn’t want completion to move at all, but it was a veiled threat). She Asked me questions she should have known by then such as how we were paying for the purchase the week before completion. On completion day, Alisha sold our house at 11am. So the buyers were on the street asking to move in. we waited outside our new house (a new build) all day in the rain. The accounts department at GG held our monies all day until 3pm, when they finally transferred them to our purchase sols. So we got our keys at 3.30pm. Despite numerous calls to GG in between 11 and 3.30, they refused to send the funds to new solicitors all day until 3pm, which is the cut off for funds to be sent that day. Even though our Bank confirmed they’d sent them to GG and they had the funds from our purchase. The solicitors for my purchase rang me and said they’d never known a solicitors behave this way before and they couldn’t understand what was preventing GG from transferring the money to them so they could release the keys to us. They simply sat on the money all day. We’ve chased up Gilson Gray 3 times since we moved to confirm they still owe us money. They’ve confirmed the amount but 3 months later, they’ve still not paid us the money they owe us. I wouldn’t use these again.

Gilson gray helped me with the purchase of my new home, and the experience was truly wonderful. I would especially like to mention Brooke, the solicitor. She was extremely proactive and kept me updated on all the details throughout the process. The whole journey with them was really seamless and stress free. I couldn't ask for better support.
