I am a lawyer who specialises in personal injury litigation. I instructed Gilson Gray to recover a significant sum of damages, together with expenses, which had been granted for a client by court decree against an uninsured defender. The defender was avoiding any attempt to make payment personally. The matter was dealt with by David Alexander and David Gray. The service provided by both was impeccable : fast, efficient and and courteous. A pro-active and vigorous approach to recover the sums due. Very professional. I was delighted, as was my client, that all sums due by way of damages and expenses were recovered within a very short timeframe. I would highly recommend Gilson Gray in respect of any debt recovery related matter.

I have only good things to say about the firm and the way I was treated

Terrible service. Starting from lying in a quote by not disclosing all charges, throughout the whole process there was no contact and no responses to emails. During the case that took 9 MONTHS, two of solicitors drop the case and was either sacked or left the company. That would be ok if someone else would take over, but no, no one told us about it for 3 weeks, no replacement was provided. The contact was just cut completely for 3 weeks...Filling a formal complaint did not make a change as they sided with their solicitors, obviously. Today, a whole month after closing the case I am still waiting to receive money that they own me and my partner... avoid at all costs. The process that could easily take up to 6 month, dragged for 6 months with only reason being incompetent and unprofessional behaviour.
To say I have been disappointed with the conduct of this company during my recent sale to one of their clients is an understatement. There general lack of responses and time being taken to respond to transactions or any paperwork meant it was a long hard slog that wasn't needed. I ended up reluctantly taking out an indemnity that was not required and was in essence called a liar :( my builder went bust whilst completing the site 35 years ago but these solicitors suggested that the company was still trading. The fact that the company they mentioned wasn't even incorporated until 3 years after my house was built is nothing more than scandalous and just shows their lack of attention to detail and fact checking. As stated I reluctantly agreed hoping that it would get the sale past the finish post but it still took another month of stress and additional costs for storage before we finally completed and then I was given 5 days to get everything organised. In my opinion they have probably taken on too many clients but that doesn't negate they're incompetence shown above. I wish anyone using this company the best of luck!!

Poor/non existent communication. ‘Admin error’ led to them forgetting searches had been received and reported on, little to no advice, just (barely) went through the motions for the paperwork. Failed to follow agreed instructions on an indemnity issue. Finally calculated the money wrong so on completion day it completed late because they realised they needed extra money when their accountants went to make the transfer. Overall duration wasn’t awful, but could have been so much quicker and less stressful.

Worst solicitors I have ever experienced, took over 6 months to complete on my property. We ended up paying more for policies because they took so long that our mortgage was running out. Zero communication, don't pick up the phone, ignore you completely. Do not waste your time.
My experience with Gilson Gray, and specifically Samantha Ling, was deeply disappointing. Key documents were mishandled, and the lack of communication was a recurring issue. This led to significant financial loss for both myself and my partner, which could have been avoided with more professionalism and attention to detail. I would strongly advise others to carefully consider their options before choosing this firm.

Very efficient timely responses would give me a call to update
First time buyers, these are the solicitors you want helping you through your first property purchase. I had the lovely experience of having Monika handle the legal affairs regarding my purchase of my first home. Everyone told me that solicitors are infamous for dragging their feet when it comes to moving the process along, but that couldn’t be further from the truth with Monika. She helped the process move faster than original expectation and provided both information & reassurance of what was happening so I was always kept in the loop. The accessibility to ask her questions also made it an easier purchase and Monika did not make me it feel like a chore at all. The highlight moment was when there was a hiccup with the bank when it came to processing my help-to-buy and she managed to speed the process through before the exchange date. If Monika is an example of the company’s work ethic, then they can expect me calling them again for assistance on future properties.
Had numerous issues with this firm... Put the wrong account number on completion day for my mortgage so the gunds did not go to the bank... had two active mortgages costing me money... took 6 months of battling to get a refund... Local search done on the wrong property... no email responses... weeks of calling to get through to anyone... information not sent or incorrect Avoid this firm!
Do not use G&G. I was initially quoted a reasonable sum for conveyancing, with them knowing that the purchase was leasehold and required building safety checks. This price raised slightly halfway through conveyancing, then on the day of exchange it was raised by an additional £1,000, then DOUBLED. Knowing the sale would fall through if I failed to pay, I was forced to. This was a no-chain purchase that took over six months to complete, despite instructions asking them to get matters in order weeks in advance. There is also administrative incompetence seemingly throughout the organisation. Wet ink documents weren't checked and had to be resigned right before exchange, inquiries from myself that relied on 3rd parties were asked one week before exchange (risky, as 3rd parties have no requirement to respond in time), despite being asked months in advance, and despite being a first time buyer, no process or documents were actually explained in any meaningful way. Additionally, questions and emails regarding progress and next steps were never clearly answered, or sometimes they were ignored for days. Certainly not worth the sum they demanded on completion. Avoid at all costs.
