Poor communication, slow to respond and really unhelpful

Disappointing service. With the exception of the last case handler, there was no sense of urgency, too many mistakes and information not being forwarded or lost. There were too many different case handlers, two of which left the firm whilst handling my case! A lot of time has had to be spent by me and the Estate Agents chasing. The inordinate length of time to undertake this simple case has left me with unnecessary additional costs.

Despite very awkward solicitors on the buyer's side, who regularly claimed the had not received information etc when it was proved to wrong, Joanne kept doing her job and stayed in touch with updates. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your generous review. We're delighted we could guide you through a difficult transaction, especially given the challenges with the buyer’s solicitors. If you have questions in the future, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Don’t even know where to start. Well put it this way if you are selling a house using Gilson Grey services than you might as well do it all by yourself. They won’t chase anything for you without your own intervention. They can’t be asked to do nothing. You get that horrible feeling from them that they doing you a favor by selling your property even though you are paying them. I don’t really want to mention names but the woman that was running our sale was always on holiday you could never reach her and every time you actually managed to get hold of her she would fill you up with false promises „ I will get back to you” some people in her team tried a little bit to help but again they had to be pushed to do it. If it wasn’t for strong worded emails from myself and the very big help from the estate agent side our house wouldn’t by sold. Very unprofessional, lack of people skills and trust me the list could go on and on and on.

Feedback shared directly with Gilson Gray in the private section of this form in the hope that it might encourage them to make some changes for future client experience.
Had numerous issues with this firm... Put the wrong account number on completion day for my mortgage so the gunds did not go to the bank... had two active mortgages costing me money... took 6 months of battling to get a refund... Local search done on the wrong property... no email responses... weeks of calling to get through to anyone... information not sent or incorrect Avoid this firm!
Horrible solicitors service. They ruin your purchase and charge you expensive fee. Avoid at all cost !!!

Hugely underwhelming service from Gilson-Grey. 8½ months to complete a private, chain-free sale. The same question kept being asked of the seller's solicitor without any explanation of why their response was unsatisfactory. Never reachable by phone. Had to chase through every step of the process, and if I hadn't, I don't believe we would have completed by now. Complaints not listened to. Cashback from the mortgage company not forwarded on to us (still chasing). I felt "stuck" with Gilson-Grey. Had it been any other service, I would have cancelled long before the job was complete.
I had a poor experience with Gilson Gray Solicitors (Lincoln) during my property purchase. Communication was consistently unreliable, with unanswered emails and calls, and my case was passed between staff without clear explanation. At the final stage, I was unexpectedly asked to make an additional payment without justification and felt pressured to do so to avoid delaying completion. Instructions around payments and authorisation were inconsistent and confusing, causing unnecessary stress. Overall, the service was disorganised and fell well below expected professional standards.
Thank you Ikra, for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent experience. I am sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the level of service you were provided with. Unfortunately I have been unable to locate your transaction using the details provided. Please do reach out to your point of contact at Gilson Gray should you wish to discuss your concerns further. Best wishes, Team Gilson Gray.
Gilson Gray are the agent for our rental property (Specifically: Pauline Traill) and I can honestly say they are terrible to deal with as a tenant. I sold my own property and moved into a rental for the first time and they have been extremely poor to deal with even the most basic of issues. Minor issues which should be an easy fix are still outstanding, most of which were highlighted before moving into the property. The property was meant to be inspected before moving in, it must have been done with their eyes closed. I found multiple issues before moving in, most of which were easy to spot for anyone. Just do your job! It’s also no use complaining to the Head of Department Marcus Di Rollo as he’s just as poor at dealing with things.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you feel your experience has not met expectations. Prior to your tenancy commencing, the property underwent extensive preparation, including a full repaint, professional cleaning, carpet shampooing, new blinds throughout, and garden maintenance. An independent inventory clerk also carried out a check-in report. We understand that you raised a number of points at the start of your tenancy which were acknowledged and addressed where appropriate, and we have continued to respond to reported issues in line with our usual processes. We take all feedback seriously and aim to provide a fair and responsive service to both landlords and tenants.

David Gray was incredibly helpful from initial engagement through to conclusion. Clear, friendly and professional communication and happy to answer any questions we had. Resolved our enquiry very quickly and made it a stress free process with clarity around what work would be carried out and the associated fees. Would highly recommend.

Douglas has been assisting me with purchasing my first home. I had to contact Gilson Gray last minute due to requiring a solicitor on a Saturday, and this company were able to do this without any hesitation. I have managed to have an offer accepted on a house (first first home) and look forward to completing the process with Gilson Gray.

Excellent experience, Douglas was incredibly responsive and helpful in facilitating our house offer process. We would recommend.
First time buyers, these are the solicitors you want helping you through your first property purchase. I had the lovely experience of having Monika handle the legal affairs regarding my purchase of my first home. Everyone told me that solicitors are infamous for dragging their feet when it comes to moving the process along, but that couldn’t be further from the truth with Monika. She helped the process move faster than original expectation and provided both information & reassurance of what was happening so I was always kept in the loop. The accessibility to ask her questions also made it an easier purchase and Monika did not make me it feel like a chore at all. The highlight moment was when there was a hiccup with the bank when it came to processing my help-to-buy and she managed to speed the process through before the exchange date. If Monika is an example of the company’s work ethic, then they can expect me calling them again for assistance on future properties.

Do not use G&G. I was initially quoted a reasonable sum for conveyancing, with them knowing that the purchase was leasehold and required building safety checks. This price raised slightly halfway through conveyancing, then on the day of exchange it was raised by an additional £1,000, then DOUBLED. Knowing the sale would fall through if I failed to pay, I was forced to. This was a no-chain purchase that took over six months to complete, despite instructions asking them to get matters in order weeks in advance. There is also administrative incompetence seemingly throughout the organisation. Wet ink documents weren't checked and had to be resigned right before exchange, inquiries from myself that relied on 3rd parties were asked one week before exchange (risky, as 3rd parties have no requirement to respond in time), despite being asked months in advance, and despite being a first time buyer, no process or documents were actually explained in any meaningful way. Additionally, questions and emails regarding progress and next steps were never clearly answered, or sometimes they were ignored for days. Certainly not worth the sum they demanded on completion. Avoid at all costs.
I got lucky with sally. Couldn't have wished for better. Would highly recommend.
We had an excellent experience throughout the conveyancing process from exchange to completion. The team was professional, efficient, and kept us well informed at every stage. Communication was clear and prompt, and any questions or concerns we had were dealt with quickly and thoroughly. The entire process was handled smoothly, making what can often be a stressful experience much more manageable. We particularly appreciated the attention to detail and proactive updates, which gave us confidence that everything was progressing as expected. We would highly recommend their services to anyone buying or selling a property and would not hesitate to use them again in the future. Thank you for all your hard work and support in making the transaction a success. Mr Emmanuel Olamiyo Muwagun and Mrs Oluwaseun Funke Ola-Muwagun
