Seven Months, Eight Solicitors, Endless Frustration
My experience with Gilson Gray was, without question, the worst customer service I have ever experienced. What should have been a straightforward purchase of a chain-free new-build property took seven months to complete. There was no chain on either side, yet the process was plagued by delays, poor communication and what appeared to be a complete lack of organisation. During the transaction I was passed between eight different solicitors – Emma, Sophie, Bethan, Courtney, Jess, Egija, Sally and Heather. Having to explain my situation over and over again was exhausting, and no one ever seemed to have a full understanding of my case. Bethan was, by far, the most concerning person I dealt with. Every phone call made it obvious she had little understanding of my property or where the transaction had got to. After supposedly working on my file for four months, she then realised she had been dealing with the wrong property. I was genuinely shocked that such a fundamental mistake could happen. On top of that, I found her rude, dismissive and arrogant whenever I spoke to her. She inspired absolutely no confidence and appeared to have a poor understanding of the legal requirements surrounding my purchase. Communication throughout the transaction was appalling. I received virtually no proactive updates and had to chase constantly for information, only to receive vague responses or no meaningful update at all. I was left completely in the dark for months, wondering whether anything was actually happening. The entire experience had a significant impact on my wellbeing. It reduced me to tears on multiple occasions. Buying your first home should be one of the most exciting milestones in your life, but Gilson Gray made it one of the most stressful and upsetting experiences I’ve ever been through. To add insult to injury, the fees charged for this level of service were outrageous. I genuinely cannot understand how a firm can justify charging such high legal fees while delivering such a poor standard of client care. I have already advised friends and family members who are currently buying properties not to use Gilson Gray under any circumstances, and I will continue to do so. Based on my experience, I would never trust this firm with another property transaction and cannot recommend them to anyone.
