I had a poor experience with Gilson Gray Solicitors (Lincoln) during my property purchase. Communication was consistently unreliable, with unanswered emails and calls, and my case was passed between staff without clear explanation. At the final stage, I was unexpectedly asked to make an additional payment without justification and felt pressured to do so to avoid delaying completion. Instructions around payments and authorisation were inconsistent and confusing, causing unnecessary stress. Overall, the service was disorganised and fell well below expected professional standards.

Absolutely shocking company. How they are still going I will never know. They are absolutely useless. Cause numerous of unnecessary delays, unable to get hold of anyone, makes way too many mistakes, the cases get past to loads of different people and even the management cannot get things right and they also tell way too many lies. If estate agents send you to this company RUN AWAY and do not get sucked in by this useless firm. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Rachel was courteous and professional at all times. The process appeared to get a little bogged down at times but on reflection was hindered by public holidays. The Redbrick Solutions portal was also confusing and could be better presented, but overall a very positive experience.

I am a mortgage broker, and had recommended Gilson Gray to my client. If only I could turn back time now. Constant delays (took 3 week's to actually start doing anything), struggling to get hold of the case handler. Call back's missed, emails missed and a completion statement sent out with the incorrect amount on, more money requested with no explanation and no amount of additional funds to send on the communication. Seems to be a theme reading the other reviews. If you are looking for a law firm that offers an ounce of customer service, keep on scrolling, this isnt the one for you. I will NEVER recommend Gilson Gray ever again to any of my clients.

Our experience with Gilson Gray has been overwhelmingly disappointing. At first things appeared to be progressing normally, but it quickly became clear that the level of care and attention to detail was far below what we expected, especially for such an important and expensive service. I ultimately had to step in and begin chasing third parties myself, including the management company and local council, because information was being sent incorrectly or far too slowly. The seller was putting significant pressure on us to move things forward, and while delays are sometimes part of the process, it became obvious that without my involvement the purchase would likely still be ongoing now. The most frustrating part was how close we were to completing, yet our case handler seemed to be doing the bare minimum - sending the occasional email and refusing to make calls because she was “too busy.” This raised serious concerns about how many cases they take on; it felt clear that they were overwhelmed and unable to provide the service they promise. We eventually had to escalate the matter to senior management. Had we not been so persistent - personally collecting paperwork, contacting third parties, liaising with councils, management companies, and even other solicitors - this purchase would never have crossed the finish line. That’s incredibly disappointing when you're paying a premium for professional support. Adding to the frustration, our completion statement was more than £500 higher than the original quote. Any additional fees should have been explained and approved in advance, but this did not happen. Some charges that were originally quoted as £40 suddenly appeared as £140, with no explanation. Despite emailing multiple staff members for clarification, we never received a single response. We are now considering taking the matter to the Ombudsman, as the lack of communication, lack of urgency, and overall disorganisation has caused unnecessary stress and an avoidable amount of personal work on our part. It’s a real shame, because a house purchase is stressful enough without having to do your solicitor’s job for them. I cannot recommend Gilson Gray based on our experience and looking at other reviews it appears we are not alone in feeling that they take on far more work than they can competently manage.
