I feel compelled to give positive feedback following my experience with Jessica Bonfield of Martin Tolhurst Solicitors. I can only give praise of the highest order for Jessica’s professional conduct when dealing with my case which should be expected but what must be identified, is the level of sincerity and in turn, comfort and hope that one is endeared by. Jessica’s natural aptitude and sheer diligence towards client support is beyond reproach in my opinion. In my given situation, my confidence, hope and optimism has been bolstered and assured. How does one put a value on that. In my experienced opinion, Jessica Bonfield displays all the key fundamentals for excellent client relationships in her profession and is clearly a pinnacle facade for Martin Tolhust Solicitors. What more can I say.

Its tempting to delay making a will but failing to do so will land your family with a lot of trouble and worry at a time when they least can cope with it. Wills are like fingerprints, similar in many ways, but the devil is in the details. Ours didn’t have too many complications but to make the right choices we needed clear, practical advice. Sarah was able to supply this and draft wills were posted soon after our consultation meeting. A couple of phone calls cleared up the finer points and we were given a choice of appointment times to call in the Longfield office for signature and witnessing. A week later we received the electronic and paper copies and the assurance that the originals will be filed in the Tolhurst facility. There was also a leaflet on Lasting Power of Attorney, another necessary thing to attend to in later life. We are studying this and will certainly return to this company in the near future

I have always used Martin Tolhurst solicitors and have always been impressed up until the end of last year! I have always used Jane Williams and she has been amazing, on the ball, professional, very thorough and dedicated to her clients. Since Jane left the company it has gone down hill, poor communication, not returning calls or emails, change of staff and No continuity. I feel that I have had to do all the chasing and do their work for them and constantly push and chase to get things done. I can honestly say that I won’t be using Martin Tolhurst for my new purchase.

Was recommended to them by my estate agent. Although the purchase took a long time I am confident that the searches etc were carried out thoroughly and professionally. All communication with them was answered promptly.

Negligent and exhausting service. They reviewed and summarised the management pack but failed to flag a serious building issue (water pump damage). I discovered it myself and had to ask them whether this should be disclosed to my lender. It was only after I raised it that they informed the lender, who then withdrew the mortgage offer due to the nature of the damage which was disclosed in the management pack. Had I not questioned this, the purchase could have gone through and I’d have been left with a major issue years later. Communication was appalling. I was constantly chasing for updates. When my solicitor went on holiday, I was passed to an admin staff member who was unhelpful, unreliable, and never called back as promised. I only received information when I chased repeatedly. The online portal was rarely updated. They may have a high volume of clients, but that is no excuse for negligence and terrible service. This may be specific to the solicitor on my case and their admin, but if they represent the firm, I would not recommend them at all. Avoid.

We instructed this firm during an extremely stressful landlord situation, expecting professional guidance, clarity, and support throughout the process. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet those expectations. The solicitor handling our matter demonstrated a lack of understanding of key legal issues, including deposit protection and the implications this has on Section 21 notices. As non-lawyers, we relied heavily on professional advice, yet we found ourselves repeatedly having to question actions taken, check documents for errors, and flag issues that should have been identified from the outset. Communication was inconsistent and often unclear, adding unnecessary stress during an already very difficult period. Even after raising concerns directly, charges were still applied for correspondence that arose from mistakes or poor handling. This was particularly disappointing given the firm’s strong overall reputation, which is why we chose them. Sadly, our experience suggests that the quality of service can vary significantly depending on the solicitor assigned to your case, and there did not appear to be adequate oversight. While the matter is now concluded, we were left feeling unsupported and disappointed, especially considering the emotional and financial strain we were already under. I would strongly advise anyone instructing this firm to ensure close supervision of their case and to seek clear confirmation of both strategy and costs at every stage.

As a family we have used the services of Simon Franklin at Martin Tolhurst on a number of occasions. We always return because he is the most professional, proactive & efficient solicitor we have ever dealt with. We would highly recommend him.
