I cannot recommend Gilson Gray highly enough, and in particular Ashley Baber, who was absolutely fantastic throughout my conveyancing process. I was dealing with some very difficult circumstances at the time and had an extremely short timeframe in which I needed to complete the sale. At the outset, I genuinely didn’t think it would be possible , but I completely underestimated Ashley’s expertise, determination and ability to get things done. From start to finish, Ashley was incredibly attentive. Her communication was exceptional and she consistently kept me informed of progress. What I particularly appreciated was her ability to clearly explain any risks, potential issues and realistic outcomes as we went along. This allowed me to make informed decisions and manage anything I needed to do at my end quickly and effectively. I’ll admit that choosing Gilson Gray felt like a bit of a risk initially, as I had previously used another firm that I knew and which was more cost-effective. However, I can say without hesitation that I made absolutely the right decision. The level of service I received was worth every penny, and I feel incredibly fortunate that Ashley was assigned to my case. During what was already a very difficult and stressful period for me personally, having someone so professional, responsive and dependable handling the conveyancing made an enormous difference. Ashley went above and beyond my expectations and somehow helped achieve something that, at the beginning, I really wasn’t sure was possible. I used Gilson Gray because they were recommended by the estate agents that I was buying through. I'm also a first time buyer and I was coming out of rented accommodation. The process took 12 weeks from start to finish and was all plain sailing until the final few days. We'd arranged to exchange contracts on the Friday, my mortgage funds were released on the Monday, ready for completion on the Tuesday. It didn't quite go to plan. There was an insurance policy, provided by the seller, that didn't quite cover everything required. This was picked up when my file went to be checked 4 days before planned exchange of contracts. The value of this policy was £21 and it cost me £90 to have it checked by case handler. It ended up being a hold up factor at the final hour. Friday came and went, as did Monday, with no exchange. I received an email saying that we would exchange and complete simultaneously on Tuesday. There was still a lot of communication between solicitors on Tuesday. Nobody thought to telephone me to let me know what was going on. No calls were returned either. I eventually got lucky because I kept chasing. It got to 3.30pm and was looking like completion wasn't going to happen because it was getting too late for funds to be transferred and received before close of play at 5.30pm. Which left me in a situation of nowhere to go. Hotels work for one night but not with a cat in tow. I pushed my point of paying a lot of money for a completion date that was agreed with everyone concerned, three weeks previously. I'd kind of hit devastation at this point. Thankfully, my case handler, Ellie Creasey, pulled out all the stops and had the funds transferred, had someone in the accounts department for the seller's solicitor agree to stay behind after 5.30pm if necessary. My keys were released and collected at 5.15pm, just before closing time. I appreciate I wouldn't have been the only case that day, or the only person completing either but I think for a fee of £2k, I'm not out of order in expecting agreed deadlines to have been met in a bit more of an organised manner. In spite of my disappointment over the completion day and the stress behind it, I would use Gilson Gray again. From speaking to other's about their experiences of buying/ selling houses, the final hour is usually the case and fairly normal. It was the only hiccup.

I asked to meet up with my conveyencer, as I was having trouble dealing with all the emails and forms to sign re: house sale. I'm not the most computer literate person. I have to say, my experience as soon as I entered through the doors of Gilson Gray's was amazing! The secretary greeted me warmly with the most contagious smile, and offered me a lovely cup.of coffee. My conveyancer Lilia Alder was absolutely fantastic. She was understanding of my personal circumstances and made me feel very much at ease ( I had quite a few problems). Despite her relative youth (that's a compliment, by the way) Lilia brought impressive expertise to the table. I was amazed how quickly she could work out what was additionally required of me to report/inform, when the wording from my house buyer's solicitors could at times appear vague or complex. Lilia is a highly intelligent lady with a lovely, delightful manner. I left the office feeling I would want to use this firm again and again for my future will or anything else they could do for me.
