Herrington carmichael acted for my company in a sale of 3 pubs. They asked for £10k in advance and then proceeded to issue invoices for work that had not been requested despite my firm instuction that no work should be carried out without my instruction. They then issued a small claims court case against my firm for non payment of invoices for work that had neither been requested or authorized. I also received fines from HMRC for work that they had been instructed on but missed filing dates. The property work they had done previously had been satisfactory but I would not use them again and definately not pay fees in advance.

My experience with Herrington Carmichael has been disappointing, particularly in relation to communication, organisation, and the overall value of service provided. Although they were a recommended solicitor through a new build developer panel, the experience did not reflect the standard you would reasonably expect from that position. There was a consistent lack of proactive communication, with key updates frequently only provided after repeated chasing, significant contractual errors raised by us as Client, and avoidable urgency created through very short deadlines and limited warning. More significantly, there was a lack of clear direction at critical stages of the transaction. Rather than acting as a proactive, value-adding conveyancer, the process often felt reactive and disjointed, leaving us to chase for basic updates and clarity. For a new build purchase in particular, this level of service created unnecessary stress and uncertainty at key points in the process. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution others to consider whether expectations around communication, responsiveness, and overall service can realistically be met before instructing this firm. In hindsight, we would have chosen an alternative solicitor who could have provided more structured guidance and genuine value throughout the transaction.

Signed a shop lease this Monday just gone and just had to post a review! My solicitor Anna is absoloutely amazing! Super quick turn around, friendly, explained everything I didn't understand in great detail for me and made me feel so at ease, what with starting a business being so stressful, I really appreciated it! She was so quick that for the first time in my life I had a company chasing me 😂. The solicitors building itself was a wonderful experience too, the air con and ice cold water in 40 degrees heat and being close to an anxiety attack after signing my life away to my new business was very much appreciated! 5 stars all round! Efficient, affable and fairly priced. Bonnett's helped us with the conveyancing of our Ascot property, and we'd be going back to them!

We have had 4 tenant leases to renew during the covid lock down and even with all restrictions in place the work has been efficiently and speedily done.
