Jess Hemmings from Paris Smith LLP was absolutely amazing in dealing with my new build conveyancing experience. Her communication was prompt, and put me at ease with her friendly and approachable manner. She was very patient with my queries and made sure I was never rushed during the process and dealt effectively with the builder’s solicitor to keep the process on track. I recently used Paris Smith Solicitors for a new build, and I was very disappointed. They didn't inform me about the full costs upfront, and I ended up with unexpected charges. The lack of transparency was really frustrating, and I felt misled throughout the process. I would recommend being cautious and considering other options, as my experience was not positive.
Dear Dr Negahdar We are sorry to hear you felt disappointed with the process. A fee quote was given at the outset of the transaction based on the information given to us. Your requirements then changed, which meant additional work needed to be carried out. Before carrying out that work we let you know that we charge additional fees for dealing with mortgages and you chose not to proceed. We used Paris Smith for a new build recommended by the developers. A poor decision on our part. It felt like they were working for the developers instead. They didn't respond to a question we had but added in the same sentence they had spoken to the developers. Who is the client? We never spoke with a solicitor, no advice given on the contract, “read it and get back if you have any question”. They should read it first and advise on any important legal points. Our confidence knocked we pulled out. Never again.

Same experience as S.E.S! They have been "administering" my late mother's estate for 6 years. She was 98, and her Will was written by them as a Trust, with themselves as Sole Trustees. So, on top of the £16K that they paid themselves for probate, they are into us for another £40K, as of 2025. It is a small cottage which has been the home for many years of the excellent lady who cared for my mother. She pays £5000 pa rent, not that we have ever seen it, and for administering it they have charged an average of £8000 pa over this period - a task we would have performed for nothing! We have no idea how much we currently owe, or why - they don't explain. 14 lawyers have been involved, most of whom we have never heard of. But they've told us clearly they're not going to step down as Trustees until we pay their bill, so they're threatening us as well. They even threatened to sell it, which would have put our tenant out onto the street in the middle of winter. Their behaviour may be legal; but it has been unpleasant - my mother intended it for the benefit of her grandchildren, one of whom has Downs Syndrome. No doubt, as with S.E.S, Paris Smith would also class these as mere "concerns"!
