Fundraising regulations cover how charities in England raise money and report on it, including compliance with the Code of Fundraising Practice and registration and supervision by the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Fundraising Regulator. A solicitor in this area helps charities plan compliant campaigns, draft consent and disclosure policies, review fundraising materials, oversee donor data protection, and handle regulatory or donor complaints. They also advise on reporting, fundraising governance, and safeguarding standards in campaigns and events.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
They handle the detailed rules around disclosures, data protection, consent, and governance for fundraising campaigns, including compliance with the Code of Fundraising Practice, reporting to the regulator, drafting fundraising policies, and managing investigations or complaints to the Regulator. They translate statutory and regulatory requirements into practical procedures for boards and fundraisers, including audits, donor communication standards, and risk management for large or complex campaigns.
