Unfortunately, we felt we received very little value for the money spent. I put considerable time into setting out our case clearly and factually, point by point, in an effort to save time and costs and to ensure accuracy. However, this work was changed and errors were introduced. Correcting these issues became an ongoing and frustrating process, as we repeatedly had to ensure the facts were accurate. We did question the billing and received a small discount, but overall we were unhappy with the cost compared to what was ultimately produced, and I genuinely feel the outcome would have been the same had I responded myself.

Looked after my interests as if it was their own, excellent service.

I've been using Battens for 36 years and was the frst client of their employment service which is absolutely excellent. For a fixed price and an insurance they cover all my employment procedures and problems with telephone advice, drafting and I think it includes all court costs though we've not had to go there! Also included is a regular lunchtime seminar to update and give tips. I also use their agricultural side which likewise is excellent and from time to time their litigation side which, so too, is very good. What more can I say.

After years of good service, Battens has let us down. A week to open a file. Another week lost because the responsible person was on unannounced annual leave and did not get someone else to stand in and advance the matter. The managing director apologised, but does not agree such delay is important.

BEWARE hidden costs. The advice we received was ok - nothing to compare it to - but we were not told we would be charged for the initial call or follow up work that we did not request (ie solicitor writing up their own notes and sending us a summary, proof reading that etc). They withdrew the second invoice when we contested it, so grateful for that but didnt need that hasstle. Make sure you are clear on what the charges are before you use this company if you want to use them!

Appointment with Ralph Wheeler today in Yeovil after speaking to him on the phone early March to discuss my potential claim. As advised by him I left all my evidence with him to look through and send me a letter stating the costs, initial £1,200 to move forward with my case. Phone call later in the day from the receptionist to say Battens will not act for me. No reason given, such as conflict of interest , or that my case would be unlikely to succeed despite paying for it out of my hard earned money. Very disappointed in them. Why take my evidence, read it etc and then leave me hanging with no explanation as to why they would not take my case. After this experience I would never recommend these solicitors to anyone as I haven't found them to be helpful.
