I recently lost my brother unexpectedly, and dealing with everything that followed was one of the hardest experiences of my life. My early experiences with family, police, hospitals, coroners, etc were met with cruelty and dismissal at a time when I was already overwhelmed with grief. The first law firm I hired only made things worse and couldn’t answer my questions, offered no real support and I was left with more questions and a big bill. Firstly what a professional company. My friend recommended the company and in particularly Karen Cole. In Ms Cole's absence Patrick Simpson returned my email and this is with whom took on my case. In my first contact I mealy wanted to have a conversation regarding my situation. Patrick was extremely hopeful with honest feedback about my options. It wasn't for a few wks/mnths later when my employer completely did a 180 on me prompting me to move forward with Patrick and bring a case to my employer. Patrick has been knowledgeable and thorough throughout this time. He has moved this forward on every occasion and the outcome has been over and above anything I could have hoped for. Used this firm after a poor service at another and the difference was vast, but of course, this was primarily down to the lawyer that was assigned to my matter at the time. To iterate this, I worked with more than one lawyer at this firm and the difference in personal styles was again quite vast. It all depends on who you deal with. Nonetheless, the firm overall, provides a professional service that's of a much higher standard than most. The advice was always open, direct, honest, and options on the table crystal clear, which you often just don't receive from a lot of firms that just want to bill you their invoice. The lawyer I had was always clear about how much time and effort each path or action would cost, giving me a good set of recommendations to make a choice with. That's no doubt testament to the firms ethos. Personally, I would highly recommend!

Review: RIAA Barker Gillette (UK) LLP I rarely leave reviews, but feel it is important to share our experience in a measured and factual way. Our residents’ company instructed Barker Gillette in relation to a complex, multi-leaseholder redevelopment matter. Over a period of more than two years, the file passed through four different solicitors, which resulted in repeated loss of continuity, shifting approaches, and prolonged delays. Communication was inconsistent, at times withheld. At critical stages there were long periods with little or no proactive engagement, and requests for coordinated meetings with other professional advisers were declined. In a transaction involving twelve individual leaseholders, this lack of joined-up communication had a material impact on confidence and engagement. On several occasions we sought line managers assistance, promises made, none kept. A key communication issued to all leaseholders in November 2025 focused heavily on risks while omitting important contextual benefits and contained many factual inaccuracies. Although a revised note was issued later, the damage to confidence had already been done. Attempts to address this constructively were unsuccessful. We raised a formal complaint with the firm. Unfortunately, none of our concerns were upheld, despite the evident breakdown in trust and service. As a result, we have taken the matter to the Legal Ombudsman and are considering further regulatory steps. This review is not written lightly. Complex matters require consistency, careful communication, and strong supervision. In our experience, these elements were lacking, and we were ultimately unable to continue working with the firm.
