EXTREME INCOMPETENCE - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
My experience with Nelsons Solicitors has been deeply disappointing, frustrating, and costly. I entrusted them with the sale of my UK property while I was based overseas, and despite passing every verification process they required, they failed to deliver on one critical task: the removal of an LL Restriction. This is a standard legal procedure that competent solicitors handle every day, yet Nelsons proved completely unable—or unwilling—to resolve it.
To provide context, Nelsons required me to complete their remote identity verification process, which I did through their secure app. This process was incredibly thorough, involving headshots, passport scans, multiple forms of identification, and other verifications. I passed all of these checks, and Nelsons confirmed they could handle all confidential and sensitive legal matters regarding my property sale based on these results.
And yet, when it came to the removal of an LL Restriction—something well within their professional scope—they outright refused to proceed remotely. Instead, they told me I would need to fly from Indonesia to the UK for a five-minute face-to-face meeting. This demand was not only absurd but completely impractical, as it would have cost me thousands of pounds in flights, several days off work, and immense personal disruption.
What makes this situation so baffling is the complete lack of logic in their reasoning. If their verification process was robust enough to handle every other sensitive matter related to the sale of my property, why was it suddenly insufficient for this one task? Either I was verified, or I wasn’t—it cannot be both. The inconsistency here reflects either a fundamental misunderstanding of their own processes or a sheer lack of competence in handling standard property matters.
Beyond this core issue, the overall service I received from Nelsons was slow, unresponsive, and disorganised. Emails regularly went unanswered for days, and when responses did come, they often lacked clarity or failed to address key concerns. I found myself chasing them repeatedly for updates and corrections to basic documentation. For example, they even failed to provide important documents on letter-headed paper, needless to say these documents were rejected by the recipients and I had to chase again for days to get the same documents sent on appropriate letter-headed paper - I felt I was dealing with complete amateurs.
To make matters worse, their delays and mishandling of the situation caused me to lose thousands of pounds in exchange rate fluctuations while waiting for them to act. These losses could have been avoided had they been able to handle my case with even a basic level of efficiency.
In the end, I was forced to instruct another law firm to handle the LL Restriction removal. This new firm managed to complete the task remotely, efficiently, very quickly and without requiring unnecessary travel—proving beyond doubt that Nelsons’ demands were entirely unreasonable and unnecessary from the outset.
The financial cost, the emotional stress, and the sheer frustration caused by Nelsons have been immense. Their inability to follow through on a routine legal matter, despite clear verification and documentation, reflects an unacceptable level of incompetence and poor client care.
If you are considering using Nelsons Solicitors for property-related matters—especially if you’re based overseas—I strongly urge you to reconsider. There are far more competent and professional firms out there that will treat your case with the attention, respect, and logical reasoning it deserves.
This experience was a costly lesson, and I hope my review prevents others from enduring the same unnecessary stress and financial loss.
