Poor communication

Communication was good in the last few days but throughout I was asked for the same information a few times, emails would go unanswered for many days, answers were often a bit short. When i did call the main solicitor things improved but when dealing with the more junior team I found they didn't answer emails

There is a reason why they have 2 stars from their reviews. They really are the worst company. Not going to go into details but let me say one thing. They do not care about their clients at all. When you make an enquiry you will have solicitors swarming your inbox like vultures all looking to take on the case on for you. Once you are on and have parted with a fair amount of cash the whole attitude changes. I had some really inappropriate comments made to me by the solicitor handling my case as well. These comments were really shocking and so unprofessional. Laurie Heizler is incompetent, claims he has all the experience but the work says otherwise. Failed to meet the most basic requirements when putting forward a case like the one I had which was so embarrassing. Once his work was picked apart by another law firm he backed down. He then wanted more money to consult a legal council on the issues when it should have been addressed in the first place. He made other comments to me which I won't repeat which are really not okay to say to a client. I lost all confidence in his work and I reported back to Setfords for a review and to get my case handed over to another solicitor. I never complained about Laurie though, I just asked for it to be transferred to another representative as I lost confidence in him, I think this is very reasonable. They never replied for three months! I had to put a lot of pressure to even get a response. You cannot get past the reception desk so don't bother calling, they will not engage with any dialogue on the phone. After losing all patience and piling on some pressure and starting to request partial refunds for the money I had wasted with them they decided to give me a half assed email on a Friday evening telling me I would have a response on Monday. It took until Tuesday for the response and it was nothing short of absolutely disgusting. Refused to hand my case to another solicitor, refused to address my detailed points and issues I had with the work they did and just gave me a load of rubbish on how "they" think the work was carried out to a good enough standard and that any issues were my fault. I spoke to Laurie on the phone where he even blamed me for the break down of the relationship even though I never even actually complained about him, I just asked for a different representative. Disgusting all of them, terrible law firm. Just avoid at all costs. One thing I learned is "buy cheap, buy twice". I now have a new solicitor working on the case who is incredibly helpful, polite and professional. They have also validated my awful experience with Setfords. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Money motivated solicitors knowly taking on cases they already know they can not gain finances for the clients. They are only interested in charging clients their fees up front and will happily go to court and lose or win on paper only. Yes they have won awards for 'best places' to work and I think this is true with their luxurious offices and staff socials, however for the clients it's a rip off, a complete waste of time and money, you get getter advice free online.

Extremely disappointing. Spent almost £500 on nothing but summaries of my own emails. When I asked questions I was not given a response, simply another email summarising my request. Took a long time to respond to emails. Didn't feel like she cared about my case at all and when I raised genuine concerns I was dismissed. Ended the contract and found another solicitor to manage my case. I do feel it was the individual solicitor though as the one who responded if they were unavailable seemed much more responsive and helpful

Lili was extremely thorough and knowledgeable and wanted the best for us as first time buyers. I was able to contact her directly by telephone which was always extremely easy and she replied to my emails usually within the hour. Would recommend to anyone.

Professional and diligent Solicitors

Sonia was with us on a 18 month journey which saw 5 house sales fall through due to certain planing conditions not been adhered by the owners or right of way on a property own driveway and numerous other issues that saw properties fall by the wayside but we have now moved this sale was completed within a 12 week period all has ended for the best.

Ongoing Court Case

I am currently still going through the court process for a driving offence but I cannot speak highly enough of Setfords in particular my solicitor Richard Hull. From Day 1 of speaking to him to where the process is now Richard has been clear, concise and most importantly reassuring about the whole process breaking down and explaining everything to me in detail at every step we get to. I have been an emotional wreck at times throughout and at all times Richard is a natural at calming me by simply explaining everything in a way I am able to understand and process. I still have a way to go but would absolutely not be who I am in this process if it wasn’t for Richard. I cannot recommend Setfords and Richard enough.

Used Michael Compton for what should have been a very simple service for an extraordinary cost compared to others solicitors. I heard nothing from him for a month despite repeated chasing, no work was carried out on my behalf and he significantly delayed the process causing what was already a very stressful time, even more stressful. Avoid.
