A Frustrating and Mismanaged Experience. My time with Higgs and Sons was a disappointing and frustrating experience. The lack of consistent attention to my case was a primary concern. It became clear that my matter was not a priority for the firm, as it felt like other cases were constantly being prioritized over mine. A milestone was needed to change solicitors as traction was not being made to the case. This created a complete lack of continuity, and despite agreeing on a clear path forward with the new solicitor, the strategy was not followed. This breakdown in communication and execution demonstrated a fundamental failure to put my best interests first. The poor management of my case not only added a layer of stress to an already difficult situation but also resulted in additional, unnecessary costs. I would not recommend this firm to anyone seeking dedicated and reliable legal representation.

Will start by saying that I received excellent service from the business conveyancing department. The wills and probate team however is a completely different story. I am writing this review to urge anyone considering using this company for their wills to reconsider. My father instructed them as trustees in the event he passed away, in good faith, and he would turn in his grave if he knew what I have been put through by this company. There is too much to even write in here but he passed nearly 4 years ago, and matters are still not resolved. They ignore you, promise responses/call backs and fail to deliver. They've made numerous mistakes and forgotten to give information meaning I've been pressured to make decisions with no time to consider due to deadlines. This is from the director of this department, who I am dealing with as the original solicitor was awful too. I know this may sound like I'm just some nightmare customer but I assure you this isn't the case. Other professionals (accountant etc) have been astounded by the incompetency and downright shoddy service by what is supposed to be a well respected company. I honestly would hate anyone's family to go through this, especially at such an already difficult time. Please at least consider other options because no one wants to think of their loved ones being put through so much stress and anxiety. I leave 2 stars only because the commercial conveyancing department were excellent. The wills and probate team deserve 0 stars based on the "service " I've receieved

Excellent service!! I would definitely recommended Higgs, who dealt with my personal injury claim after my road traffic accident (hit & run, unknown driver) Simon Stanfield (my solicitor) and his legal assistant Alison Rowlands are both super friendly, professional, very helpful, and both communicated fantastically with me during my claim. I was always kept in the loop of where my case was at, as the Motor Insurance bureau (MIB) are not the most responsive, but Simon & Alison constantly updated me of where my claim was at, or what step I needed to take next. If I need any future claims or advice I would 100% definitely return to this firm for help. Thank you so much Simon, Alison and Higgs.

Founders first MBO.

This was our first MBO, and it was a steep learning curve. Higgs helped guide us through the legal side of the process and were available when we needed clarity or reassurance. They produced strong documentation and helped us protect our position as founders. Over the course of 5 years, we appointed Higgs & Sons to act as a professional deputy. Unfortunately, our experience was consistently marked by poor communication, significant delays, and a lack of professionalism. Despite the firm charging approximately £12,000–£15,000 per year for what were simple administrative duties, timely responses to calls or emails were rare. Although Nicholas Moxon was named as the appointed deputy, we did not receive a single email or telephone call from him during the entire period. All communication was instead routed through Claire Whittall and Katie Chance, both of whom were frequently unresponsive and, at times, discourteous. On one occasion, after receiving no replies, I drove nearly two hours to the firm’s office, only to be handed documents by a receptionist while the relevant staff members declined to meet. The deputyship accounts were also significantly behind schedule—approximately two years overdue. Given the level of fees being charged, it is essential that these accounts are scrutinised by the Senior Courts Costs Office to ensure they are legitimate and proportionate. Following my mother’s passing, we expected a degree of sensitivity and efficiency. Instead, even simple enquiries regarding arrangements for a modest funeral required repeated follow ups. The funeral directors were not paid promptly, and we were again left to chase for updates. Despite the minimal communication during this period—amounting to only a few emails—Higgs & Sons sought to charge £3,389.40 for “extensive involvement.” In correspondence, Katie Chance stated: “Following your mother’s death there was extensive involvement to assist the executors in understanding the current position and to try and progress matters. The work completed from the date of death to date currently stands at £3,389.40… However, given the value of the estate, I am happy to agree to a 10% reduction of these fees as a gesture of goodwill.

I asked for their help submitting papers to Land Registry and was required to pay £2400 up front. They then said they didn’t think I would be successful and refused to submit the papers or give me my money back.
